how do I check lower ball joint

The steering wheel shakes when I go past 100km/h
Sometimes it's pretty violent, sometime it's not too bad, sometime it doesn't shake at all.
Braking or stearing make no difference.

I know there is a very slight play in the wheel bearing, but I'm leaning towards a faulty ball joint... Does anyone have a procedure to check the lower balljoint?

Jack that corner up off the ground, then push and pull on the wheel, get a finger or two on the ball joint while you're doing this, if you can feel movement, it's toast. But, it is unlikely that a bad ball-joint is causing steering wheel vibration. My current DD has bad lower ball joints on both sides and the most I get is an occasional 'loose' feeling in corners.

Normally when the wheels starts shaking at highway speeds it mean your wheels are not balanced. You could have had a weight fall off or something, I would bet money this is your problem, twardnw is correct your ball joint wont make it shake, if it was bad most likely you would hear a clunking sound when going over bumps.

Nope, only at high speed.
I haven't had a chance to really look into it yet, but I have to get 2 new tires up front anyway. So once I got the new rubber on I'll see if it still shakes or not
