brand new squeaky brake pads?
Hey guys, about 2 months or so ago i replaced my stock brake pads with some new Hawk HPS brake pads in the front, because i was starting to squeak. I did the normal break in, accelerate to about 15 and stop normally a few times, then accelerate to about 35 and stop hard a few times, and they've been squeaking since about 2 weeks after I had them on. I did put those clips on that hit the rotor when the pad gets too low, but why would BRAND NEW pads be squeaking??? has anyone else experienced this before? faulty pads? and no, these aren't my rears i am hearing, i tried stopping with just the e-brake and its silent.

Higher performance pads definitely squeak. As they break in they might quiet down, but a bit of a grinding and squeaking sound is normal.

Did you put some anti squeal grease on the backs of the pads? If not start there. Dont fall for the accelearte to 80 and bed the brakes routine either.

60 - full stop, about 6 - 10 times is all you should need.

search this. it's a very well documented fact that hawk pads and many others are noisy. it WILL NOT get better despite all of the above suggestions.

stick with OEM brakes since the rotors can't handle aftermarket pads. Trust me ive been through this.

OEM pads are, decent by design, they grip just enough, they last long enough, generate acceptable amounts of dust and they have little problems.
Upping the pads, I think will require upping your rotors. It all comes down to how aggressive of a bite the new pads have. They can be very very hard on a OEM rotor. OEM rotor cant handle heat generation very well, and alot of people have had no problem warping them with only 20,000km on them. It also comes down to how hard you drive the car. If your the type that rides the brake and drives super agressive, I am pretty sure your rotor will wear faster. There are a few threads on here that talk about this, or if you do a good search, you might find out the ins and outs of different types of pads.
I know "How stuff works" has an ok little read on pads... use that as a stepping stone and expand your searching from there.

Dont run away thinking that the above articles are all you need to know, its one opinion, you may find differeing opinions or things that other people find more important. Its important to get a "round table" idea of how it works from different schools of thought.
That aside, I recently looked into my brakes after about 80,000km and realized that the OEM rotors are not as good as I thought they were, in comparing other OEM experiences. I have choosen to upgrade to Cross Drilled Rotors from KVR. as well as their Carbon Fiber Pads, minimal to almost no squeal at all.

cheers
