Need New Tires for GTS
I have a 2008 Lancer GTS and I need to buy new tires because my stock ones are completely worn and need to be replaced after using them for 34k miles.
Anyone have any suggestions on something affordable and good that will fit my rims?
I want something good in the rain and snow.

You are going to have to go all season for snow. rain is not a problem for some high performance summer tires like the Kumho Ecsta SPT, but the numbers will not be good for snow. as you look at tires on tire rack, click on the survey link if available and it will tell you the tires ratings for many categories: Example:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....re1=yes#Survey
34K is pretty good for the Dunlops. With tire selection, it really depends on what you want to do.
Here is an ultra high performance tire that is all season and has good survey numbers across the board. it is also on closeout at tirerack.com:

So, you suggest going with the all seasons then if I have a decent winter up here in the North East?
Also, what else am I going to have to replace when I get the new tires so the TPMS will still work?

Yes. snow was the deciding factor for all season. the survey numbers for snow and ice were very poor or non existant for the ultra high performance summer tires for obvious reasons. TPMS should work fine. had my tires replaced and still works fine. just don't pay for valve stems when you buy your tires and have them mounted. the bridgestone should be a good tire if you are concerned about snow. if snow is not an issue, buy the kumho.

So, I won't have to get the valve stems replaced and the TPMS will still work, because I remember reading something about how they need to be replaced when you get the tires changed so that it will still work.

the manual recommends replacing the grommets and washers for the TPMS sensor, but the stem is part of the sensor itself. i did not replace the washers or grommets and have had no issues. TPMS works fine.

General Tire Exclaims... great performance, and will not kill you in snow. Its alot better in snow then what you have lol.
But I think the more balanced GoodYear Eagle GT is good because it comes also with a rim protector incase you make more contact with the curb .

Don't get snow tires. If you do, get them mounted on cheap 16" steel wheels and swap them out for winter.
Just get the Goodyear Eagle GT ($125) or the Eagle F1 A/S-C ($99) in stock size for something that will get you through a modest about of snow.

Honestly, when it comes to snow tires I could care less. I do not have that issue down here. i was only recommending it b/c as you saw in the link it had very good snow, wet, dry traction numbers with good cornering stability. the OP said he wanted something that was good for snow and rain and that is what i found him. It seems that you guys might find something better for snow traction. If the Goodyear eagles are a better tire for winter or good enough then he should get those. That is probably a better fit for him anyway.

Dyno. You are correct. I discussed this with a relative who lives in wisconsin and though the winter tires i recommended have good snow ratings along with dry traction they tend to wear really fast in the summer. In fact he recommended the same tire you did which means he should probably go with that. He said the tire i recommended would work, but he will only get about 20K miles before he needs new ones.

Hi, I bought some Cooper Zeon Tires a week ago fro my GTS.
Threadwear 400 Traction AA Temperature A. It is High Performance Tire
Size is 225 45 18 and I love how it looks.
Pros. Much stickier than the Dunlops Sp5000. on dry and wet. Great feel on the sterring wheel also. Sidewall's feel solid on turns also
Cons. I was looking for a quiter tire but after 65 MPH they do sound the same or louder than the Dunlops.
Overall: If I had to buy again I would.

If it is an all season tire, it is the small slits (Sipes) cut into the tread lug. the noise will vary between different tire manufacturers but it is a nature of the beast kind of thing.

when it comes to performance of a tire, besure to look into the weight of the tire as well. I was really falling in love with the idea of getting the GoodYear Eagle GT, but I think i just saw it was 26 pounds. of course thats likely due to the fact that there is more rubber for the rim protector part. so there are trade offs no matter what tier you grab.
so many good but different options.
Goodyear Eagle GT
215/45ZR18
93W XL 400 AA A 1433 lbs.
50 psi
10/32"
26 lbs.
Dunlop SP 5000M
215/45R18
89V SL 360 A A 1279 lbs.
51 psi
10/32"
24 lbs.
General Tire Exlaim
215/45ZR18
93W XL 380 AA A 1433 lbs.
51 psi
20 lbs.

Most of the manufacturers recommend a 7.5" wide wheel for a 225/40. think if you go to a 225/45 or a 225/50 you might find some that are recommended for a wheel width of 7"(minimum). here is a tip, when you look on tire rack, look at the rim width range column under specs for that tire. if your rim width is not at least the minimum or maximum, i would not have them put on your wheel. remember that if you go to a wider section width than is recommended, for a particular rim width, the tire will cup and the sidewall will not be as strong.
