No they will not fit. 215 is width of tire. 45 is height of sidewall. the 45 stands for the sidewall=45% of the tires width. so even though those 2 numbers are the same the 17 means that the tire itself is an inch smaller in total diameter. You will have to get 215/45/18 snow chains.

Stuntfly02 is correct - you have to get the correct size. You can't fudge this.

I'm running 235/45-17 on stock Evo 17x8 rims, 38mm offset. I had to roll the rear fender lips on the Lancer to make them fit, though my car is lowered over 3". The fronts also rubbed against the front of the fender liners, but it fit well by the end of the race...the tire wore away holes in the fender liner quite nicely.

I have 18x8 wheels with 235/40R/18 wheels.

This is with the WORKs springs that have a 1.1 drop.

No rub issues even during autocross, turning hard and hitting the brakes.

I've read through a few forums now.. and none seem to mention if the rim width matters etc and how much

So im just wondering... I'm looking to buy winter tires/rims and trying to save money by buying smaller rims with bigger times (bigger sidewall so that the wheel overall is roughly the same diameter)

We all know the stock GTS rim is 18x7... but how big of a difference does the width make?

ie) would a 16x6.5 rim fit? also.. for these types of patterns..

a) Pattern: 16 X 7, 6-5-1/2.
b) Pattern: 16 X 6-1/2, 5-115.
c) Pattern: 16 X 6-1/2, 5-4-1/2.
d) Pattern: 16 X 6-1/2, 5-100.

does the bolt pattern have to be EXACTLY the same for it to fit properly?
Which of these rims would i be able to fit on the GTS?
If more than one fits.. are any better than the others? or about the same... (the 16x7 rim is about double the price of allt he others )

c) Pattern: 16 X 6-1/2, 5-4-1/2 is the ONLY one that will fit. The bolt pattern has to be EXACTLY the same. The ONLY thing you can play around with is the offset. Seems a 35mm to a 45mm offset will work. Im not sure anything else has been tried.

Anyone know if there are torque specifications for our lug nuts? I searched a bit but didnt see anything. I know the last model Lancer was around 75.

Edit: And ours is the same. *cough* owners manual *cough*

Official FSM answer is 73 ft-lbs, plus or minus 7 (so anywhere between 66 and 80 is cool, according to ).

Should fit fine, yeah. The extra .5 just makes the rim a little wider. Since you'd be using stock size tires, it'll just give them more room to breath.
