Weird background noise on 09 Ralliart AUX
Anyone else having issues with the AUX input making a weird noise?
I took it to the dealer and they called Mitsu and they had no idea and turned me away.
Any ideas?

I get the noise even when the iPod/MP3 player is unplugged, also I get it when I unplug the cable going into the AUX jack.
There is noise when there is a player plugged in and playing, paused and low volume.
The dealer said it was first at normal until I let them hear for themselves. Now they have no idea and they "Can't" fix it....
Thanks,

do u have a stock head unit, or an aftermarket one? if its aftermarket, depending on how long ago u got it, u might be able to get it replaced. my buddy had the same problem, he just replaced the unit and everything was fine

"...turned you away..." and "...can't fix it..."? That just seems so wrong! I'd try a different dealer and start crawling up the Mitsu ladder if things don't go your way. Make sure you keep track of any time your car is in their posession so you can go the lemon law route if it comes to that.
BTW - have they even tried to replace the unit? Seems like a good place to start.

I know the sound you speak of...it is the automatic gain control of the audio system trying to boost a quiet signal. Make sure your player is at full volume, or it could be your MP3 doesnt put out enough power.
I have noticed another thing tho...mine works clear and fine with my Creative Zen player, but on friends iPod Touch, it gets the noise. The only thing I can think that is different mechanically, is the headphone jack on the iPhone is designed to also accept a microphone, and has an extra contact in it to provide power for the mic signal. Could be the phantom power in there is screwing with the AGC. Perhaps the Zune is the same?

its normal.... the aux set up is picking up engine noise/magnetic interferences through the rca jacks... all nomal.... i did a fix for it get a noise filter.. aka ground loop isolator and that will fit the problem if it bugs you that much... and i only happen when nothing is run through the rca jacks

I have this same noise on my AUX jack when nothing is connected, or when my Zune MP3 player is connected, but powered off. As soon as I turn my Zune on, the noise goes away, even if no music is playing yet. Accordingly, as soon as I turn my Zune off, the noise comes back. I won't be driving around with the radio in AUX mode without anything hooked up or turned on, so this doesn't really bother me for now. I'll be pretty irritated though if it continues to make that noise when I want to hook something else up besides my Zune.

to get less noise make sure your mp3 player is on and PLAYING a song BEFORE switching the radio to AUX mode (it says this in the manual) also get a ground loop isolator, this has been a problem since the 2008 lancer came out, there will be no fix issued by mitsubishi, FORD had a similar recall basically the fix was to install a ground loop isolator. so head over to radio shack and buy a ground loop isolator, it did wonders on my car pc install which uses the factory aux jacks while the computer is powered by the cars battery (plenty of noise without the isolator)

thats what i got, might need a a male to female adapter but thats it, there are others online that come with a straight aux plug ill search for one
