back speakers

The entire back panel that houses those 6 3/4 speakers is completely metal. So what would be the difficulty rating of pulling that out and cutting some 6 by 9 holes in there to get better sound. I know most of you guys are going to say "just get subs" but im looking for a difficulty rating. thanks

i made some fiberglass enclosures for my 6x9's so that they would fit cause i didn't want to hack everything apart too much....so the speakers are now slightly raised and tilted forward and it sure made a huge difference in the sound and it was definately for the the better......my enclosures are just a test model and i plan to refine my design a bit in an effort to take up less space and make them look cleaner

be careful putting in new speakers, if they are to big they are going to hit a cross metal bar that helps stabelize the trunk lid. u might hit them if the speaker gets to long.

If you're referring to the carpetted rear deck panel... removing that and cutting your holes wouldn't be that hard. I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be a 5.

If you're referring to the metal rear deck underneath the carpetted rear deck panel, you can't remove it and cutting it wouldn't be too hard if you had the right tool. I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be a 7.

Like "myfakeevo" said... make sure you're 6x9's mounting depth isn't too deep that it hits the trunk's crossbar springs. The trunk won't open or close or stay up properly if it hits the speaker.

If you find that the 6x9 will hit the crossbar... you can make a plate to mount up top to space it out, or fiberglass a new speaker pod so that you don't modify the rear deck.

Hope this helps,

Nick

I wouldn't do it......

what i would do is...if you don't want to go the sub route.....buy some good 6.5" speakers for the back and run them through a 4 channel amp. 6.5" will produce a cleaner sound than a 6x9

I agree, even you are not looking to go with a sub, buying some aftermarket 6.5" speakers and a small 4 channel amp will produce better sound then a 6 x 9 will.

it doesn't have to be a very powerful amp.....about 50 rms through each channel will be plenty....i had some nice pioneer speakers and a sony amp and it sounded MUCH better than stock.....with the stock system you are missing out on quite a bit of the sound spectrum....the amp helps you gain some of it back.....

just curious....why would you want the 6x9s
