Aux. Jack on Stock HU?

Can an Auxillary jack be added to the stock head unit? I bought a new Creative ZEN mp3 player and don't really want to use a transmitter...

bump as I would like to know also... even though I took out the head unit like a year ago to do the relocation, I never looked in the back to see if it was doable. If no one else anwers, I might have to take the HU out and see for myself and let you know.. School really gets the best of me these days...

I researched this a while back to find that the only thing that can be added to the OEM HU is the OEM 6-disc changer (beyond using a FM transmitter that is, but in general they suck).

it was my understanding that its possible to send a signal through the CD changer aux ports... No one has pinned it out yet to identify the exact way to wire it in yet as far as I know.... Should be possible though

anything is possible in a sense.. you could rip apart your head unit and rewire it so that it uses the CD-changer input is a aux input but then you'd have to toy around with it. At that point you might as well just buy a cheap sony reciever. That's what I did, that plus the 30$ adapter cost me in total 150$. I can even install an aftermarket sub setup without having to mess with the stock amp/speakers too.

So I take it no one found an AUX input on the stock head unit? I've heard nothing but bad things on FM transmitters and I'm not gonna waist $85 on something that sucks. But I really didn't want to drop $200 on a new head unit!

Ive found that new head units are soo much cheaper than a few years ago... Im just gonna buy a decent $100-150 unit and go with it...

Looks like thats the way I'm gonna go too... Don't have much of a choice!

So i was looking for a new head unit and found out if you have the Sun & Sound set up, an after market head unit would have to by pass the factory amp.... This info was from Crutchfield.

Installation Details for your 2004 Lancer
» Use the brackets that came with your factory stereo to install your new receiver.
» An installation kit is not required to install your new receiver.
» Bypass your factory amps by running new speaker wires from your new receiver to each speaker.
» If the factory radio is replaced, the factory sub will no longer work.

Have you guys experienced this or is Crutchfield wrong?

hey Bruce,

how is the Sony receiver doing? I'm thinking of doing the same thing, but most reviews rage on them. However, I'm not an audio freek, and don't care too much about having top SQ. As long as it does as well as the stock unit and dun break, it'll be fine for me.

You don't have to bypass the amp. You just need the soundgate adapter. www.soundgate.com. There is a sticky with the info. I bought a new HU recently from crutchfield and i am using the soundgate adapter. No problems whatsoever. Crutchfield claims they have never heard of the soundgate adapter, i beleive they say that just because they don't sell it.
