Mirage IMs

Does this matter? Someone asked me, and I don't know...

Part #s for 1.8L Mirage IM
1997 - MD330835
1998 - MD330836
1999 - MR560707
2000 - MR560707
2001- MR507800
2002 - MR507800

Mirage head seems to be same part # through the years, though. Same as Lancer head - MD313415

My parts list shows slightly different numbers than you have...
http://forum.mirageinfo.net/partsheet08.jpg

I am unaware of any significant changes to the manifold through the years. The throttlebody changed in 98, but the gasket was the same since 95. Manifold to head gasket is the same. The only related change I know of is the evap canister was moved to the rear of the car in 99, I believe, so the vacuum lines might be slightly different. It could just be a different, cleaner casting with the exact same flow specs also. In any case, the 97 model year is revered for it's ECU, adjustable tappets, and greater number of Fed specs on the market, so were there any critical changes, 97 would probably be the best.

So, '97 is the best to get huh? Good thing I got an amazing quote on one. Time to buy, port, and install.

I'll hold off for a few days though, just in case someone else has some input.

I want a '97 IM, anyone have an extra one lying around? And livelyjay, were you going to do the port it yourself?

Ideally, two or three people could orchestrate to buy one of each then compare with photos and measurements. Just to put any questions to bed. I doubt that one of them would get stuck with a junk manifold, so there should be very little to no risk. While I am very confident of that, don't take my word for it.

Like my pal AirQuez has mentioned on here, Miragers are poor and lazy, otherwise I'd have them compare. Plus, our cars came with them so there's no need for us to buy one.

Thanks for rubbing it in. Well, how many Lancer's have made the switch? GreenPsycho and Engineerboy? I'll be getting the '97 manifold as soon as I get payment instructions, but the install will probably not be for a while (might as well do the fuel rail while I have it off, not going to buy that quite yet). Maybe we could take detailed pictures and compare through here or something.

GP, engineerboy, and lancermarin are the others with IMs. GP got his from engineerboy and engineerboy helped lancermarin get his. i don't think any of them said which year they have. i have an '02 G93 IM so i couldn't help ya, but i do have pics if you want them. or actually, i have some pics in the thread i put up.

4G93 intake manifold installed

the only thing i didn't show with pics is the rear vacuum port that goes to the brake booster.

Looking at GP's...
http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachm...chmentid=63950
http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachm...chmentid=63949

...and rhyzin's...
http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachm...id=58082&stc=1
http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachm...id=58085&stc=1

...there appears to be a minor difference in the plenum and TB flange. rhyzin's has a little "throat" after the flange. However, being that he ported it to 62mm, there's obviously no consequence to the throat.

On all of the IM's that I've "helped" with I've tried to get the newest to ensure closest match to our engines. So GPs is an 01 and LMs is a 2000 since EVERYONE IS BUYING THESE DAMNED THINGS and I couldn't find an 01 for less than $150.... but that's alright. AFAIC if an IM for the 1.8L is used, I wouldn't expect any major issues.

And for those that are now yelling "I need a 97 'rage IM" think about it. He just said that was the year they made a fairly major switch.

Kris - FYI, that little package I sent ya is off a '97.

Yes, '97 was a change. But he also said that it's revered for being the most aggressive. So it might be hella powerful! Who knows?

PS - looking at Gunshin's part list, one funny thing. $420, $415, $393 - each successive IM went down in price. Odd.

i would imagine the ecus being more aggressive as the mid-late 90's were the last line of fedspec ecus.

car-part.com has them listed as low as $55 right now for '01s.

They must have had more added to the list. Cool. That was a couple months ago that I looked for LM

DJ your package went out today, shouldn't take too long to get to you. I'll let you know if the 97 resonates with the Force more than the regualr G93's do

Sweet!

On the other hand, crap. I don't have the intake spacer I was hoping to get, and I don't have the bigger injectors yet.

for a phenolic spacer, grab a .25"(or however thick you want it) sheet of garolite G10/FR4 and use your intake manifold gasket as a stencil. i'm pretty sure this is what other people have used. the big name guys just use a machine to cut it out of the same material.

how much did you pay for that spacer, DJ? and take your time getting that back to me, if you need to. Sooner's better, but don't make it so you have to install the thing twice or anything
