How To: Improve your stock 08+ Lancer bumper for $20
I've been looking into rear bumper lips but don't like any that are available right now. They are all too "on-road/street" looking for me. On the other hand, the stock rear bumper for the Lancers is just plain boring. I wanted to plastidip the bottom of the bumper to make it look sort of like a diffuser. Everyone knows that plastidip can be tricky to tape off and that you may have to use a razor blad for a clean edge. I figured out a way around this for this particular modification.
I went to autozone and picked up some 1/2" thick chrome trim and outlined where I wanted to plastidip. You have to be very tedious in getting the edges straight.
Then I just taped the edge up to the chrome trim and started plastidipping.
The edge came out really clean and the black trim makes it look like an add-on to the bumper. I think that its a pretty good solution to the plain rear bumpers if your not wanting to spend a bunch of money on a lip. Let me know what you think!
You could even use the trim to make fins for a more diffuser feel. I really like the way it turned out and will be keeping this for a while. Let me know if you have any questions.

haha that's never good. After I put the chrome trim on I realized that I had no newspaper to mask with. So I had to drive to my parents house to pick some up with this stupid looking chrome lip on the bumper haha.

Great idea! I think I may have to also do it. Plus, if you get tired of it, just take the plastidip off. It's subtle enough that when I first looked at the third pic, I didn't see anything. Course, that may be just my old eyes.

Exactly, plastidip is an awesome product because of the fact that you can remove it. I'm sure this would look really good on your evo too. Do you have the USDM or JDM rear bumper on your VIII?
