How-to-Swap Evo9 Steering wheel to your Lancer OZ rally

This is a how-to swap of a Evo9 steering wheel to your Lancer. I have a 03'Lancer OZ Rally Edition.
I believe all Lancer have the same steering wheel setup. If your not sure, search or ask someone.

Materials:

-Evo Steering Wheel
-8mm Long Allen wrench
-10mm Wrench
-Flat head screwdriver

Optional Tools:

-BFH (Big F*cking Hammer) or rubber mallet
-Very strong Friends
-Impact Wrench
-Eye wear

CAUTION: First, wear proper eye wear. Second, Air bag can deploy if you dont unplug the
battery. The most important of all use common sense. If you screw-up your car don't
blame me.

Procedure:

1)Go to the Battery and unplug both (+) and (-) terminals by using 10mm wrench. Just to be safe.
2)Lock the steering wheel to the LEFT and wait until it locks.
3)Look under the steering wheel and locate the panel. Use a Flathead screwdriver to pop
cover off and you will see this:

4)Unplug the SRS (YELLOW plug (AIRBAG)) and the Cruise Control plug (BLACK plug)

5)Locate the hole to release the steering wheel. It's located in the left side of the
steering wheel.

6) Use the 8mm Long Allen Wrench. Turn the bolt counter-clockwise.
This probably the hardest part of this DIY. Proceed with
caution. I used my strong friends and the BFH and the rubber mallet. I FAILED. So I used
the impact wrench (not pictured) and FINALLY loosened the bolt.

((((((((Still Have problems follow this)))))))):===> Cant remove steering wheel

7)Pull the Steering Wheel towards to your self VERY CAREFULLY. Then, unplug the horn wire (RED wire).

8)Unplug the rest of the Cruise Control wiring harness from the clockspring

9)The EVO9 steering wheel that I bought from a member here cut the horn wire, thus I
needed to make a new wiring and plug. I made the wiring on the side. The pic shows the
finish product.

10)Install the EVO9 Wheel to the shaft. wait until it clicks. Then tightened allen wrench
nut with the 8mm Long Allen wrench clockwise.
Then plug the SRS (YELLOW plug (AIRBAG)) and the horn wire (RED wire). Place the cover
back and you are DONE!!!

This is the comparison of the steering wheels. OZ wheel on the left and EVO wheel on the right.

Hi all,

Got a wheel from an 06 evo. Decided I'm going to get rid of the car so I've put the wheel on ebay if anyone is interested.

I know outwards appearance the ES and OZ are somewhat similar but will this work on the ES?
I know its a noob question but I want to make sure because I plan on doing this in the future.
