HID's DRL and Fogs

Ok, I have an 08 GTS and correct me if im wrong (car is nto with me) but isnt the DRL ran off the high beams? and if so why would u get flicker on your low beam hids?


Also is there any problems with heat when putting hids in the fog lights?
Im thinking of ordering some int he next few days so let me know..

also any recommendations on what color to get (K)

Search around next time, all the info your looking for has already been posted.

DRL is only on the low beam bulb. Therefore only the low beam would see any flicker. Check the posts for how to bypass the DRLs. As for the fogs, I have not had any problems and I havnt seen any real problems with them as far as heat goes.

I personally have the 5500K because I did not want to go that blue. Depends on what kind of look you want.

Thanks for the tips, the guy selling them said the DRL was on the high beam and being i dont have my car till friday was trying to find a solid answer!

Do you need rely / harness to wire them up.. I know you can with out.. but.. probably safer to do it with?

did u do 5500k with fogs and lows?

im shooting for probably 5000k

A) get a anti flicker kit or a relay, dont slash your wires period, because if something goes wrong, either related or unrelated eletrically then you will have warranty issues.

B) dont do fogs, in the winter it might not be a problem, but the summer heat and HID intensity will melt your harness to the fog assembly 100% sure.

Awesome, thanks evo_soul, ill pass on the fogs, thanks for the warning!

Ill get an anti flicker relay kit then just to be safe!

Is it worth doing your high beams since im passing up the fogs or no real point?

Not true, I have HIDs in my fogs. Whenever I have my headlights on, I always turn my fogs on as well. After running them all summer long and all winter, I have never seen any problems with them.

Sorry, I have the 5000k on Hi/Low/Fog. Must say the Hi's are freaking awesome going through back roads.

Well I went all out last night, I ordered 5000k for lows and 45000k for my highs, probally over kill but i got a bulk discount got a set for the gf's car to

Have you had any heat issue with your fogs?

nope...last time i took them out at the end of the summer to solve a problem, there wasn't any sign of damage.

Hope you didnt buy them from the guy who thought the drl was on the high. You will need a drl fix relay harness, or your stuck with leaving your headlights on auto.

Also a good set of hids on a the fogs will melt the housings if you drive your car at night alot.

lol, try taking them out hhaha take a picture for me and put it back in haha i am sure something will start fusing haha I have seen about 3 car club guys have the same issue. I had Nokya yellows and they were just slightly starting to melt, like 5% melted. had a hell of a time to remove them.

well i tried just that. the bulb came out with the greatest of ease and went back in just as well. i took a picture of the back of the fog light, and from the front. quality isnt great cuz of my phone camera that i used. Finally got my fogs ligned up at the same height now too lol

There is only 2 reasons your fogs wont melt, 1 There not good quality, 2 there not on long enough to do any damage.

ok, i got mine from mobilehid, which was recommended on this forum as a good hid. And as for not on long enough, is a 3 hour trip long enough for???

i say if ur melting ur housing ur getting some crap that is overheating. Think about it, going from 55W to 35W is less energy...aka less heat. especially since light intensity is higher. I dont see how ur melting the housing unless u are just getting bulb replacements at a higher wattage. Anyways, im not gonna argue this anymore.
