How to: Change Belts and/or Crank Pulley for 04+ ES

I have been checking this site for answers for forever, but I finally figured it out.

To change the belts:

3/8" or 1/2" drive Socket Wrench
12mm socket
14mm socket
14mm box-end wrench

Open the hood.

There are two bolts that you are mainly going to be concerned with. There may be three others that cause trouble, but they may not.

Start first by loosening the serpentine belts by loosening (counter clock-wise) this bolt with the 14mm socket:

You should see the belts start to loosen around the AC and Water pumps. If not, then you will need to use the 14mm box-end wrench to loosen this bolt that is located under the AC pulley:

After that, your belt should just fall off. Now its on to the Alternator belt. Start by loosening this bolt that is located to the rear of the engine bay with a 12mm socket:

If it doesn't come off easily, you may need to loosen 2 more bolts.

There is a bolt right next to the one you are at that might need to be loosened:

Loosen it using the 12mm socket.

If you are still having problems, hop under the car and look up at your Alternator, you should see this:

Loosen it using the 12mm socket.

Your belts should fall right off and you'll be able to change them! Put the new ones on and tighten EVERYTHING up back to the way it was.

To change the Crank Pulley, you will need:

Everything from above plus:
12" breaker bar
22mm socket
Jack stand
Straight blade screw driver
A good friend

Start at the point where all your belts are off.

Take off your front passenger tire and remove the Wheel well lining by popping the clips with your straight blade:

You will see the Crank pulley right there. The easiest way that I found to remove it was to put the breaker bar on the bolt and place the handle on the frame:

From here, get your friend to get in the driver's seat while you hold the breaker bar. Have him turn the key and jump the car, DO NOT START IT. You can ensure that the car won't start by unplugging the spark plugs. Doing this will turn the crank forward and keep the bolt still, essentially loosening it.

Take off the bolt and give the Crank pulley a tug and it should come right off.

Replace it with your new spiffy Lightweight Crank pulley:

Put the bolt back on and tighten it with the breaker bar. If it spins, have your friend put the car in 5th gear and push as hard as he can on the brakes. This will prevent the pulley from spinning and give you the umph to tighten it up.

Put your belts back on and your wheel well on and that's it!!!!!!

Yeah, the Ralliarts have a different setup and require different stuff. Just figured I'd write up my experience for all you guys with 4G94 engines. Also, it works wonders! I notice a big difference! I recommend this to all of you! This was first ever engine mod (besides the intake, but come on)!

Yes it is. I am getting an Injen CAI and RRM Piggyback ECU on July 14th. That's when DHL will deliver them. My next write-up will be my Piggyback ECU install, I already posted instructions, but when I get it and put it on, I'll post pics. I may post a how to on the CAI, but there are plenty of those...

do you have to have all the belts off the pulley(s)?
when i do my 99 civic si...the Crank Pulley still moves..
help me plzzzz...i put a metal stick to stop the power steering pulley..
but the crank pulley still move..plz help.!!
