Warranty Question - Interior Air Purifier
Hey All,
I'm up here in Canada and I'm taking my 09 GTS in for its second oil change tomorrow - car just passed the 12,000 km mark.
Talked to the service guy today and he says I need to do 2 things:
1. Brake inspection - $30.
2. Replace the 'interior air purifier' - he says this has to be done every second oil change - $80!!
Has anyone else run into this air purifier requirement? I've never owned a new car with warranty before so I'm not sure what's required for warranty and what's not. I also hate paying for brake inspections - by the time I actually need brakes I will have paid for more than a brake job in inspections!! Seems stupid to me, but I guess not everyone is comfortable with maintaining (or even understanding) their own car.
What are my options here? Thoughts?
Thanks!

Hey dude from next door province (MB).
I havent done that interior air filter check yet, and im at 21500km.
I also dont think its necessary to have ur brakes checked at 12000km.
I personally can do it myself.
Your brakes shoudlnt need replacing or to be checked with ur mileage...unless ur totally hard on them!
Altho while ur car is in, you could have them check for warranty recalls...I think the brake check valve was one on 08 and 09 Lancers....

You don't need to do any of those.
However you can change the cabin air filter by yourself.
Instructions
And as for the new filter I always buy these:
They're cheap and great quality.

Another question
One more thing.....the guy at the dealer tells me if you don't change the cabin filter every 12 k that dirt will get in the blower motor and it will be more likely to seize. Then he tells me the blower motor assembly is $800. WHAT!!!!!
Is this a total load of ****? Is the blower assembly even on the 'clean' side of the cabin filter?

Sounds like bull... cause the dirtier the filter, the better it should filter, just a lot less air going through.

Pure crap, change dealerships.
They tell me i need the Type D service next oil change and all they do is inspections on things i can do LOL. And i have alot of mods that replace alot on that list as well.
I just take mine in and tell them what to do oil / filter and Trans fluid no extra crap.

He's in Saskatoon..only one Mitsu dealer...
We are lucky to have two in winnipeg.
Those Type C and B and D pakckages....
Most of us can do all that ourselves...
I say Type A is all I need when I go in.,...that is if I dont do it myself.

When I replaced my first filter, there where holes in it from pebbles hitting it. Not big enough to let things threw just yet, but it still looked chewed up. I change mine out whenever it looks beat up, otherwise a quick vacuum and its all set.

Indeed, it takes 5 mins (if that) to change the cabin air filter... And, on eBay, filters (OEM I believe) cost about $10 - $15... Save the money and do it yourself...
