4b11 good for 400whp?

I wonder how accurate this is?? I am talking about the open-deck 4b11, not the semi-closed 4b11t. I heard the on gencoupe.com forums. Luke from BeyondRedline took one apart from the genesis and says it looks good for 400whp possibly with out changes to the block/reinforcements/block guard. Is the genesis theta 4b11 the same as the mitsu "world" 4b11??? The pics on the site of the genesis 2.0 loook like it is no diff than the lancer 2.0, except for the fact that the genesis 2.0 is turbo'd. What are your thoughts??

link to gencoupe 2.0 thread with pics of "theta" 2.0

Its possible, the Genesis doesn't have a closed or semi-closed deck (if i remember correctly), which many people say is the weakest part of the N/A 4B11. We do have forged rods, pistons will have to be changed out for lower CR if your going turbo to make 400whp. I dunno how strong the seals are either, but maybe they are just as strong as the 4B11T for production reasons?

Edit: Im not saying its possible for the 4B11 to handle 400whp on stock internals, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it is strong enough. Hyundai designed the main block for the world engine, mitsu just added all the little extra stuff.

The genesis has an open deck, as i stated before, which is why it seemed a little farfetched for it to be able to handle 400hp. Especially when vendors say that it can't handle a lot of power being open deck(less strength).

That engine is not the same as the 4b11 and as a result any comparison or suggestion that these engines are capable of making the same power is irrelevant. Mitsubishi and Hyundai designed the "world engine" together but each company has their own versions of that motor.

Plus if our 4b11 would really be capable of reliably handling 400hp without modification wouldn't you think that RRM would have cranked out the boost on their turbo lancer instead of running it at around 8 psi?

Very unlikely, at the very least, you'd need new pistons and head work. Plus, why would you want a 400 WHP FWD car?

Its rear wheel drive^. We'll have to play the waiting game and see what the motors can handle with AMS and Buschur both working on them im sure we'll find out soon enough. But the numbers you are saying are just speculation no one has pushed a genesis anywhere near those numbers. You cant really compare the X motor to the one in the Gcoupe.

I think Amby was saying why would anyone wants a 400whp FWD lancer, not genesis. And on that site the vendor seems to think that the internals on the Genesis are good for 400whp. And you can't compare any of the motors mentioned, the only thing they share is the block. All the blocks of the world engine's were made by Hyundai. Knowing that I would say the 4B11 (Block only, not head, pistons, rods, ect.) is just as strong as the 2.0 genesis engine. Mitsubishi reinforced that block for the evo to make it semi-closed to handle much more power.

And once there is enough demand for high HP lancers and people have money to buy new pistons and get their head's ported and polished, there will be a stage 2 or stage 3 turbo kit that is well over 300whp. Chances are that may never happen lol.

you dont know until someone tries it.....but 400whp without some internal work sounds a bit far fetched...i could see 300 do-able...maybe

Even if the Gen coupes' internals are relatively weak compared to an X's, its still set up for forced induction from the factory, which means the comp ratio, tuning and fuel delivery are tuned as such. A Lancer is made for economy and N/A, so a bolt on kit is as far are as you are going to be able to take it without building the engine. And a bolt on kit is not going to net you 400whp.

And wanting/having a FWD 400whp car is totally okay. Don't let some "expert" talk you out of it.

How can you effectively use 400 WHP in a FWD car though? For 90% of the people on here, 300 WHP would be pushing it in terms of useability. A lot of people seem to shoot for some arbitrary number (300 WHP, 400 WHP) without having any experience in terms of what that number actually means and feels like.
As for the obvious bait attempt, I'll leave that alone.

How can you effectively use a 700whp Evo or a 1000whp Cobra? You can't without a race course. But to arbitrarily decide what is too much for someone else using your own set of values is lame.
