Which Intake?

I am trying to figure out which intake I should get for my 09 GTS:

1) AEM CAI $309
2) RRM SRI $219
3) K&N "CAI" $321
4) Wait for the 2.4L version of the Injen CAI $???

Which one would you pick and why?

wait for the 2.4l version of the injen cai just because early dynos from injen supposedly prove its better than the 2.0 version.

not sure how much i belive it but either way i would get the injen 2.0 or 2.4l but since the 2.4 is about to come out you might as well just wait a bit.

^^ agreed!

Plus the 2.4l doesn't need that extra kick in the low end that the 2.0l would need. IMO, a CAI would benefit the 2.4l much more then an SRI.

I am more inclined to believe the Engineers I spoke with at INJEN. I published my interview here already ~I~ TLC & EVOSOUL INJEN Interview / Q&A for the 2008+ Lancer CAI .

The reason why it would be more wise to get the tuned 2.4 version is because the 2.0L is very very specific with how its MR and other technology influences the MAF sensor in to running its fuel trims richer. The intake as it is would restrict air flow and may limit the potential power gain.

Second I dont think INJEN would spend the time and money developing another intake unless they were worried about safety or performance. I would highly recommend getting the intake designed for your car, these intakes are much different then previous ones.

Of course , i too am an engineer and in the real world of R&D (which is what i work in, straight R&D customers come to us with an idea and we make it happen) you cant always believe what other companies and their engineers say. Weve bought ultra caps in the 200F range the size of a D size battery that according to the manufacture could not be operated beyond certain conditions but we found they were wrong.

^^that was just a small example that although these products are created by highly educated engineers they are still a COMPANY and they still need to make the $$$. They will say what they need to to sell a product. now im not claiming they are 100% BS im just saying that they may be telling half truths to sell more product (which isnt unusual).

I do believe the 2.4l intake performs better than the 2.0l but by the margin of +11hp! I dont know about that and I wont know until an independent dyno is done. What i find strange is injen released the dyno for the 2.4l intake on the 2.4l engine to the person who tested it and he snice has posted it BUT injen DID NOT give him the dyno of the 2.0l intake on the 2.4l engine, he simply "saw" it on the computer screen and said it was "jumping around"...this could be because the chart / data had not been smoothed out yet but who knows. ALL I KNOW is that if i made a product of mine 5X better than before for another engine I WOULD LET EVERYONE know by distributing both dynos saying see see look at this !...

You cant just believe everything engineers say

Thanks everyone for your input. I figured I would wait for the 2.4L version of the injen CAI to come out and some independent dynos to see the actual gains

Do you something like an allowable voltage range or temperature? Alot of manufacturers use the CYA mentality. IE: If a 93% of a particular model will operate at 15v for a specified life time and 99% will operate at 14v for the same life time they will go with the higher percentage to minimize warrenty type claims and ticked off customers.

As an engineer my self I can honestly say that most engineers will use big numbers and non-answers to confuse people just to so they can get out of answering a question that they don't a clue about...so yea that is very true statment.

i understand what your saying about the capacitors, i was just using a general example but good point .

and your last statement is also very true, i mean if i was an engineer and i owned a company and my product worked so much better than before with a new revision, i would make sure EVERYONE knew about it, especially something as high as a +11hp difference.

I'm no engineer but I have the Injen CAI for the 2.0 on my 09 Gts w/ the 2.4 liter. Seems to work fine for me. Had Injen on my Eclipse GSX and they are the way to go.

check out the link i posted.. the 2.0l cai provides around 2hp for the 2.4l which is why they are making a 2.4l cai

Search by seller "clubmustkara". He sells lots of things for very reasonable price. I think he also sells intakes of other brands.

Got word that the INJEN intake 2.4 had left the production line and should not be making its way to wholesalers
