Post Whats your Oil Brand

Okay, been browsing a lot of threads in the past two or so days sincei joined up. after all the reading that i have done, not too much is spoken about the fluids we use to keep everything running smooth. Just wondering what kind of oil every one uses. I was looking into this particular brand, Purple something, can't quite pin the name to it, but from what was spoken about it, seems like a winner. any objections?

Royal purple. Amsoil is supposed to be super good too. I just dont like synthetics though. Everything Ive run them in hasnt performed well. I ran it through my car once, seemed like the performance worsened. Ran it in my bike, the clutch started slipping. I run castrol GTX 5-30 religiously with oil changed every 5k and when my engine blew at 140k, you could still see the honing marks in all the cylinders just like the day they were honed. I trust that stuff against anything. Ran pennzoil once and my honda blew up.

i have used many different synthetic oils in my lancer before i turbo'd it. the one i found that made the most difference in fuel mileage was royal purple 5w30. with driing to vermont and pa which was 10hrs i was getting 43mpg. also on my dads 2005 f-150 with royal purple 5w20 and a k&n air iflter he was getting 5 mph better than what he was originally

Ok kinda off topic but kinda not. What is the reasoning behind using 20w-50 after turboing the lancer? Does it have to do with the turbo lubrication or something? Or does this help with the higher cylinder pressures?

Basically, youve got to find what works best for you. And its not going to be pennzoil. But we can argue all day about what is the best oil but at the end of the day, its whatever you prefer really. Some say synthetics, others say no. Its all about how well you take care of your car and how much you want to spend. Be religious with your oil changes and your car will stay in good shape.

It will be a month or so until i can actually get cracking on putting some fresh lube in the machine, but i am getting ready to install a good deal of upgrades to the OZ and just seeing if there was a common favored brand/weight (pre-turbo).

Installing Intake Mani, piggy V2, and throttle body as far as drive train goes...

yeah for right now...will eventually branch into bigger things, but for what i want to do right now; this is a great one stop shop. once i get back to Cali, i'm sure the sclc.net guys will have a lot of suggestions on where to go next.
