Question O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction

So in the midst of diagnosing a problem I scanned the car to see what codes it was throwing. It came back with the obvious ones cause I have no cats but the one that threw me for a loop said o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank 1. Now I know that bank one means the one attached to the EM but does that mean the sensor is bad or its having a wiring issure?

Thanks. Would that make the idle inconsistent and the Air/Fuel ratio go crazy?

Ok so onto my next question. Has anybody used a "universal" o2 sensor? They have those at the parts store in my area. basically its a o2 sensor with no connector. You would use the connector from the OE one im assuming. Any ideas/feedback?

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work. Just splice the wires.
