ECU question

since RRM is coming out with a turbo kit, does that mean all the ECU must be reprogrammed for optimum performance?

I'm sure they will offer a piggyback ECU with their turbo kit.

They'll have to. An NA piggyback would be useless with a turbo kit.

It depends, really.

It's often possible to turbo a car using something basic like a Fuel Management Unit and Rise Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator. In the past, RRM has used a turbo-programmed piggyback (like on their 02-06 kits).

My bet is on the piggy. But last time I said "my bet is on...", Rob immediately said I was wrong.

It won't come with another ECU. SeRious08 just mistakenly called the SplitSecond piggyback unit an ECU.

I don't imagine you guys will be able to reprogram your ECUs until the Evos have been out for a bit, assuming they end up using the same ECU.

Yeah, I just call the piggyback an "piggyback ECU". Its not an actuall ECU. Sory for the confusion.

people with a SRI and NA piggy will have to sell off their parts

turbo kit will require timing tuning along with fuel and the N/A piggy doesn't allow that.. and the SRI well.. that's kinda a given

completely new ecu would really jack the price up

if you really want "OPTIMUM" performance then yes the ECU needs a complete reprogramming or have a stand alone put in its place. However, a piggyback will get you pretty good performance especially if they get control of the mivec as well.

With a CVT application for the GTS, Mitsu should have allowed for a power mode and normal/econ mode. It would have solved some of the performance issues.

Anyone else annoyed with having to replant their feet to get their car to move.
I hate having to whip the donkey by shifting.

I think given a little bit of time, programing for the engine and transmission can be done easily.

question.....for ppl who have the NA piggyback....if they do decide to go turbo..isn't their a program in which u can tune the piggyback to ur liking?

If this isn't so, I'm gonna call RRM and cancel my order of the piggy

sorry if I'm wrong but the only thing you can reprogram is the air and fuel ratio I believe. I wished you could control timing so I could get a little more out of my 93 octane but you can't, oh well I think I'm still getting one.

most will simply tune the MAFS output, thus changing the a/f, but that in turn affects the timing. You can do pretty well with it, but there is more to be had if you can change the timing independently
