The best way to ground aftermarket cd player

I Hooked up my clairon headunit and there is no ground on the stock head unit from what i can tell. I ran the ground from the headunit to a bolt and i blew the fuse for the rear tailight and lights for the nobs for the a/c. What is the say way to do it? The only thing i can think is im going to install my tv & dvd so i was going to run a ground from the battery into the car. Is there any easyer ways

Use a seft tapping screw or drill a hole in a metal bracket behind stereo and ground it there. Do not run wire from front of car to behind dash as this would be a very poor ground because of the small wire guage I would assume you are using. You should have not blown any fuses asyou said you did. Make sure you are using the proper wires man or you can do some damage. Oh, and of course, make sure the power is off on vehicle when doing your wiring.

the stock headunit has a ground. nothing can draw power with out one.

I ran a wire behind the console and to the mounting bolts for the gear shift... Other option is to run the wire to the "Cigar Plug" and splice into that ground.

I had the EXACT thing happen to me about 3 days ago. I hooked up my alpine and I blew the same fuse you did. After replacing the fuse everything works fine now....

I ended up grounding the headunit to one of the bolts directly behind it. When the HU isnt in yet and your looking into the hole in your dash you might notice 4 bolts that look like they might be bolting your dash to firewall (or at least something else sturdy)

All I did was loosen one of those bolts and attach the ground to it and then put everything back the way it was....

I did the same thing as TimDog and have no problems with noise or anything else. Just get a small ratchet and loosen one of the bolts directly in back of the unit, it looks like it is holding some of the bracing in place, it is ok to loosen one and have the bracket remain in place. Watch your hands in there, it is a little bit tight and I have a nice scar on my finger to prove it.

I installed my Kenwood last night and did the same thing as above. No problems whatsoever last night or this morning. I installed a ring terminal on the ground wire and put the bolt right through that so it makes good contact.

OR, if you want to do it really nice, grab the factory harness, take a look, find the ground, splice into that and there you go, a nice ground.

ok i totally re wired the harness wire for wire and I ran a ground to a bolt, it blew...Ran it thru the antenna which is what grounds out the stock 1 it blew.... Tryed no ground just the harness to the harness it blew. Ive had people who kno there **** look at it and were all stumpt... Some one tell me exactly how they wired up there cd player after wireing harness to harness. Im using a 2002 Lancer harness..Im lost

u know, i had a weird experience with a cd player installation in this car..i dont think i ever hooked up my ground..or one of the power wires i remember and it still worked. i was using a mitsubishi harness.

and im not a newb when it comes to installation, i know for a fact that the ground wasnt connected when i tried to see if everything was hooked up. i eventually did just ground the cd player to some bolt behind the console tho.

Ok here is the real deal. The lancer radio is an iso mount radio (meaning is mounts with brackets instead of a cage) and ground is transfered from the stock radio chassis through the radio brackets and then through the mounting posts and etc, back to the battery. Anyways this is how you do it. Take the ground wire that comes off the Clarion harness and then put a ring terminal on it (make sure you have enough wire length) and then take off one of the screws that you mounted the radio to the iso brackets with (I suggest one of the rear screws). Screw it back into the bracket with the ring terminal inbetween the screw head and the bracket. Now screw your radio back into the mounting posts. Assuming you've replaced your fuses that you've already blown before, your Clarion should power up (also assuming you've wired the rest of the harness correctly). PM me if you need more help/have any other questions. Oh and there are two Mitsubishi harnesses. One for up to 93 or 94 (I forget) and one from 93/94 to the present. You should be using the one for the 93/94+ models.

Oh and here is another tip, don't hook up the Illumination and Dimmer wires (orange and orange/black) because on many cars they will just cause problems with blowing fuses and could be one of your other problems. Just cap them off seperately. It's standard procedure at my shop not to connect them to prevent unneccessary problems.

When I did mine, I hooked up every wire but the 2 for the power antenna and 1 for a "cell phone mute" option. Make sure you solder and shrink wrap all the connections for best results.
