A lot of companies do shallow mount subs now.. Pioneer has a nice line up you may try.

There must be a lot of room under there, or tiny subs as that seems too small for quality sound. Can you hide a sub box in the corner area of your trunk? I know that some company makes (or made) one for the Evo.

I use my trunk for work so it has my toosl in it. Plus I don't want my trunk rattling like Kin Folk in his crown vic if you know what I mean. I'll take a look at the pioneer line up. I have always like that company

^Agreed on JL. I'm running a 12w6 which certainly isn't from their shallow-mount line!

Chameleon, the sub box I'm talking about went where the storage space is on the driver's side. You'd definitely want some protection against loose tools sliding, but it didn't encroach much into the trunk.

As far as the crown vic rattle...well, it might be better than the bowel rattle you might be experiencing with a shallow mount! Seriously, I try to find that balance of sounding good inside without buzzing my trunk lid. You can fix that with dampening but I don't want to add the weight (the sub box is easily removed if I need to drop the weight).

In any event, good luck on getting your setup going!

at school and kind of limited as to my web search, but you can go better than shallow mount..

Blaupunkt offers a compact powered sub

Memphis offers up to 12" with 500w/1000w

jl 6w3 and jl 8w1 are pretty small subs... the enclosure will be a bit of a trick and probably involve custom work.... you can also look into the jl tw5 (slim sub)... but that will require a bigger box and more custom labour / fiberglass.

One other thing I can suggest is mounting the sub in the rear seat center arm rest area or on the passenger's foot well.

Here's a picture of an 8" kicker sub in a custom box on the passenger's foot well of an NSX I did years and years ago:

Here's a picture of a jl 8w1 sub in a custom box in the center arm rest of a bmw 3 series:

Hope this helps,

Nick
