What size subs wll fit?
Just wanted to know if anyone on here had experience with sub installs and could tell me whats the biggest possible set up i could fit in my trunk. I think 2 15's could fit with a properly made enclosure. and im pretty sure 1 18" is out of the picture unless I had some sort of real small sealed box. So what do you guys think? As of now I got 500 rms going to 2 12" w1v2's in a sealed box. like 1.25 cubes to each i believe. NEED MORE BASS!

well as for the size of the subwoofer, it depends how you orient it. really, you could fit a 22" jackhammer facing up if the sub wasnt so deep! for my SPL system, i fit 2 12" kicker L7s in a 6+ cu. ft. box, 3 cu. ft. each sub. dimensions were (i think) 13" high, 24" deep, 32" wide, and it was ported, with each port being 3" wide, 14.5" deep, 11.5" high. I literally had to drop kick the box into the trunk, and put the subs in after the box was in.

Im currently running a 15" power punch w/ a custom box, w/ the face of the speaker facing upwards. Only problem now is the mounting that I had to keep it in place broke (twice) Hard driving/big box in the trunk = a moving box. My box is fairly huge, but still has room on both sides of the box. I dont recall the dimension of hand. Box is 5 years old. I would think that a custom box made for an 18" the way my box is set up would be ideal, so it wont move either direction.
another thing to consider is our trunk is light weight and w/ the wing on... I had to turn the amp down and only run about 450 rms watts... Any more bass than that and it feels like the wing will fly off or somethin. And thats w/ a lil dynomat.
just my .02
I will try to get a couple pix up later tonight.

Ah i see i see. 2 12" l7's with something like a zx1500.1 powering it was my initial plan but then i decided to research some 15's to see what i could find. How loud can those get in our cabin anyways? Anyone had any problems with our tiny stock alt handling upwards of 1000 rms? Im kinda planning on 1500 rms like I said but am afraid of the potential consequences. Before anyone asks yes I've done the Big 3 upgrade and installed a cap (save it, I know it is a band aid to a poor charging system but i'm only pushing 500 rms watts and its a 1 farad cap, so it helps give me that little boost), along with an optima red top.

what the hell did you just try to say? that i should get 2 15" l7's in a sealed box? i have no clue what "one for each sub one for the speakers" was supposed to mean either.

Ha ha. I was confused too. I'm thinking he meant a sectioned box that would allow each woofer to have its own closed airspace.
And to the OP. I don't think you need bigger subs, per se - but maybe try a better sub(s) in the biggest box you can fit with a whole lot more power.

I used to run 2 15 in the back of my 03 ES and those thumped. People would get in and tell that they're back in the hood, or something rediculious. Anyways I have cracked my windshield, lost my rearview, and had both plates front and back fall off due those beasts... I still have them sitting in my closet box and all... I have moved on to bigger and better things w7 baby!!!
But 15s will sound fine, I am downgrading the size because I am looking for a much tighter bass, and a little more response then what I was getting out of the 15s... lets just say every time those hit, you could literally watch the trunk flex and bend under the pressure of sound. Amazing if you asked me.

no joke, get a single 13w7 in a ported box, with a jl1000/1 amp. you will not need more bass than what this set up would provide- I was running a 12w7, and it hit haf... The problem that we have is a much smaller car- the sound waves reach an optimal spl (path length)@ 10 to 15 feet on a 15 inch sub... Do you want the car in front of you at a light to have more bass than you, from your system?? 2 12w7's in a ported box with the right power, and you could get some nose bleeds.
