Wiring Help

So I have bought 2 sets of Infinity Speakers for the doors of the 09 Lancer, these are rated at 2 and 4 ohms. I asked a friend about the purchase of a amp to power these speakers, and he advised to get a 75w rms x 2 @ 4ohms so I can adjust. Following his advice I purchases the Fosgate P300-2 at 75 w rms x 2 @ 4 ohms.

My questions is how do I wire these up on the amp to make the system sound good, and also will I be forced to replace the factory wire with aftermarket wire?

What are peoples views on Infinity, and will this be enough power to feed these speakers.

Kappa 2.9i Kappa 62.9i: 75w 2 ohms (back)
Kappa Perfect 6.1 Kappa Perfect 6.1: 100w rms 4 ohms (front)
Fosgate P300-2 P300-2

There is a similar post in the Ralliart section, mods please delete that thread

excellent choice of speakers, but very bad advice. return the amp, you need a 4 channel amplifier, not a 2 channel. i personally recommend the Hifonics ZXi-6406. its 85 watts per channel at 4 ohms, and will power every speaker nicely. with a 2 channel amp liek you have purchased, each speaker will only be getting 37 watts RMS, since you would have to hook up 2 sets of speakers to one channel. Also, you wont get a "surround" sound for the same reason. with a 4 channel amp, each speaker is running off of its own signal and you will get that surround sound.

good luck

You mentioned that it would be running off of 85w rms will it hurt the speakers whose rms is 75?? Can anyone confirm this?

well Hifonics is a great brand, but they are a little bit overrated. the amp is probably REALLY pushing 60-75 watts RMS, but they also have lower powered amps like the ZXi-4408, pushing a Hifonics rated 55 watts RMS per channel, which would still be greater than 37 watts per speaker with your amp you have now.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+ZXi+4408.html

also, the components would be fine to run off 85 watts, and you could always turn the gain down a little for the 75 watt speakers, but honestly, you should be fine.

good luck

so what if I took the 100wrms and tied those to the amp... and run the back two off the hu? I wouldn't be losing any fading, and in essence I will be having four channels... sounds good in theory

well if you did that, you probably wouldnt even be able to hear the rear speakers because the front ones would be drowning them out. trust me, if you want to do this right, like you say, get a 4 channel amp, and tell your friend to stop giving advice about sound systems haha.

hahahah. I'm with yitzac. You need a 4 channel amp. And to do it even more correctly, you would want a 5 channel amp to include a mono channel for replacing that sub. You're already going to go this far, why not take the extra step.

Also, running a little bit more power to a speaker than it's rated for is fine as long as it's clean power. If the THD of the amp is high, then it's not clean power. Distortion blows speakers faster than too much power (but of course too much wattage can blow a speaker)
