Amp and Subs
Just a general question, for now I like the stock speakers in my lancer, can I install an amp, woofers and new headunit and have a fairly decent system?? Or could I get away with using the current headunit
I'm not trying to win competitions I just want something with a little more bass to it, any suggestions or comments??

the stock head unit, doesnt have the rca outs in the back (ya i know you dont need the rca's but its a whole lot simpler)
you should go with a aftermarket stereo, 99% of the time they have RCA's on the back, along with the blue remote wire to turn the amp on
i just sold my system for $250, look around the neighborhood you can find sometine like that

well my sources tell me

My friend told me there is a Link you can attach especially to the stock radio. Allowing you to attack amps and the works. I'm planning on doin that myself. Buy that,. attach the amps; one for the 2 12's. and another for my four interior stock speakers. so it looks like you have nothing, but under the tear and wear, it's your little secret.
i'm doing that, any opinions let me know. And by the way, i'm surprised that this little lancer, has a VERY good Sound system, compared to other stock system cars...

This is true. Those paper cones seem to get pretty loud without any distortion. I was impressed the first time I cranked the volume. Not like it matters. It won't be stock anymore once I finally have some free time on the weekends (provided it isn't raining as usual).

When I did my system, I didn't want the interior to look appealing to the neighborhood kids. I wanted to keep the interior looking bone stock but add goodies. I did Pioneer 6 3/4" an Alpine 5 channel amp and a 10" JL in the back. I sacrificed no space at all. The 5 channel amp is great because you can add a subwoofer to your stock headunit...just use a level converter because your stereo outputs high level at the speakers, but the amps usually take a low level RCA...you'll need 2 level converters if you want to add a subwoofer level control upfront...I stashed the knob in the ashtray, it has a light in there already and everything...just close it and wallah...bone stock Lancer! It sounds great too.

If you're keeping the stock HU, don't worry about new speakers, just grab a line level converter, an amp, and a sub... with that you're set.
If you're going to be replacing the stock HU with a unit that makes more power, you're going to rattle the stock speakers to little bits. They're a 15 watt rated speker, and I know from my own experience that running 30 watts RMS (60 peak... but I don't think I ever cranked it on the stockers) each to them has totally pushed them far past the normal distortion levels into what I like to call the "My car sounds like ass" zone.
For a stock setup, yes, they're quite nice. They get pretty loud, and stay relatively clear. So if you just want more bass, I'd stick to the converter/amp/sub plan. You could probably get away with a decent sound for somewhere in the range of $200

200?> yea ight....it's gonna run a little more than. that, if you really want some good ****. If you want good bass.. put some 10's or 12's in your rear your choice... and usually you need about 300+ pluss to make each sub kick. so you gonna look for a good amp running at about say, 600 wts or more. plus you gotta get cables... recommend 4 gauge for best power. a power distributor block, to share the line to the amp and cap, etc. so save up and hope you have a good hook up like i did.

He could do that but then he wouldnt be able to hear his highs. why does everyone think u need 600+ watts to make subs hit hard? just stick with the line out converter with a small amp with 1 sub. I would say 250 for all parts(converter, amp, sub, wiring) just buy the best converter u can find or u will be sorry.

From what I read, he's not looking to have the buildings on the block fall down around him as he plays. He's just looking for some decent low end to compliment his stock speakers. You don't need 2 12"s and 600 watts for low fill. A single 12" and 200 watts would be PLENTY. You don't need a cap, or 4 gauge wire, or even a dist block for a decent amount of bass.
He'll be okay with 8 gauge, straight to a small amp. My personal reccomendation for a sub would be a JL 12W0 or even a 10W0 in a small sealed box (to make with some nice SQ and keep some trunk room, and the W0 line to save the wallet.) and a nice little amp. Possibly even used. And he could definately pull it out for $200. (if he's willing to do the install, and build the box)

the clarion with a 3.5" lcd display is what I'm looking at. It's a dvd player wth dvd changing capabilities. **** those sony xplod's, you pay an extra 100 bones to watch fish swim on your head unit.
