My new speakers!!

I go to Best Buy today and buy 6.5" Pioneer 4-way speakers.... and i take the stock ones out of the rear deck and finally figure out that the d**n things are way too small to even think of fitting. so what is the real size for the rear deck and the doors?

and also has anyone bought Pioneer TS-A1680R's or does anyone know if they are any good? does 3-ways in the front and 4-ways in the back sound like a good setup or just 4-ways all around?

thanks
biggins

you should of got Pioneer TS-A1780R instead of Pioneer TS-A1680R. other speakers that fit are the new pioneer rev series, Pioneer REV TS-D170R

i just got 2 sets of the rev speakers, the ts-d170r in the back (6.75 but a pretty big mount depth) and the thinner ts-d160r in the front (6.5")

the larger ones fit the hole perfectly, but the 6.5" were a tad too small, so i used the adapter brackets that came with the bigger ones with the smaller ones. you might be able to fit the 6.75" in the front, but i was worried about the window hitting it, so i didn't want to risk it

Talking

the size folks is euro-din (7"). i tried every single 6.5" there was & none of them fit EXACTLY like stock. so i made baffles for my components & trimmed the inside of the door panel. sorry the pics are a lil blurry. it was raining outside when i installed them. here are a couple pics:

Stock speakers are "Oversized" 6.5" (meaning 6.75"). Most 6.5" speakers come with the oversized adapter tho, look in the box and make sure u got everything.

no the stock speakers are not 6.75" as i also purchased 9 sets of those (with trim rings) & ONCE AGAIN THEY WERE ALL TOO SMALL!! the pioneer rev 6.75's even fell thru the door hole. y do you think i had to make the baffles shown above? not only to fit the hole but also for the window to roll down & clear the magnet as the stock speak depth is 1 1/2", my new ones are 3" deep. i went to every local car audio shop in the PHX area (car audio capital of the world in case u didn't know) & the cheap shops said use the trim rings, the custom shops said build baffles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wanted an exact fit to the stock holes. Alpine was close but it was for the chrysler style (3 hole). infinity was too small, etc... everyone mount however you like in your car i guess but if you have a custom shop drop in your speakers, PULL OFF THE DOOR PANEL & SEE THE BAFFLES FOR YOURSELF.

What trimming had to be done to the door panels?

What do you mean by a baffle? An "enclosure" so to speak?

Thanks!

what i mean by baffle is the wooden spacer between the speaker & door. i did have to trim the inside of the plastic on the door panel i removed also to allow for the extra clearance. they way i measured this is i 1st measured the mounting depth of the stock speaker to determine baffle thickness. i then cut baffles to exact shape of stock speakers, test fit (by rolling window down) & proceeded to bolt it in. i also used the stock speaker as a template & even took the stock speaker into all the car audio places showing them that what they sold was too small. yes it is true the actual driver itself is 6 1/2 but the entire speaker mounting points (hole to hole) measured 7" (170mm). good luck & let me know if you need any help!
