turbo installed today

well today was the big day
i installed the RRM non-ic turbo kit by myself
i started at 830 this morning and did everything but tap the oil pan and then i took it to a shop for the night. they are gonna tap the pan and run the oil lines
cant wait to get it back tomorrow
the kit was pretty good as far as fitment
but i was missing the piece that goes from the BOV to the intake so i improvised with a rubber hose that fit perfectly(i think it was a radiator hose).
the only problem i had was when i cranked up the car my CEL light was on, is this normal??
let u know how everything turns out tomorrow

congrats, wow man thats pretty fast. dont have them do the oil lines, you can do it yourself easily. do not crank your car without having the loi running thru your turbo.

do NOT start your car without the oil lines connected to your turbo. that is very bad! did you install a header with your non intercooled kit? that could be why you got a CEL on. good luck, happy boosting.

Yeah to piggy back on what Boni said, your secondary 02 sensor is only there from the factory to monitor the performance of the catalytic converter (the 1st one in the stock header). If the 2nd 02 sensor sees that the cat isn't working properly, it will throw a "catalyst efficiency low" code. The only way to correct this is to get an 02 simulator and install it in the harness of the 2nd 02 sensor, thus fooling it by thinking the cat is there and working.

Let us know what the code is and we'll try to help you out! Good luck with the turbo.

i went ahead and got a mechanic to tap the oil pan because this is my only car and i dont want to risk tapping it, but i got it all finished its running good but i cant boost yet until i get all the 87 octane out of their
the CEL light was no big deal i just forgot to reconnect the airflow sensor
ill let you know how it goes tomorrow

i wanted to know what to do about the nipple on the valve cover, i dont think i should leave it open? my CAI was connected to it with a vaccum line but i did not see anywhere to connect it on the kit

Yeah you will have to get a breather filter for it. Should be around $10 at Autozone or whatever...

yeup either put a breather filter there or install a catch can... most people want a chrome or red/blue breather. This is one thing RRM doesn't provide as all pepboys/autozones/kragens have them on the shelf in different styles and colors. They figure that the owners can pic and choose better that way. I've even seen a conical style before from autozone... looked cool.

yea anytime you start your car after having disconecting the battery and you throw a CEL at start up your triping hard codes and that means somehting si wrong
catalyst efficency codes usualy dont go on for like 10-100 miles or a whole bunch of start ups
best of luck with your car i knwo youll be happy with it

Has anyone with the RRM intercooled set up taken pictures of their intercooler piping before installing it? i'm very curious because i found a place to do custom piping. So if anyone can help me out with pictures of hte intercooler piping it would be awesome.

Oh, and for the record.. i'm not trying to rip off RRM's design of the intercooler piping.. The guy who is doing it for me just wants me to check how to get the piping from the turbo to the intercooler becuz it comes really close to the belt. so yeah i just wanna see how RRM did it to make sure the belt and pipe dont rub each other. thanks for the picture dookie.. would you happen to have anymore pictures of under the hood near the passenger side headlight?

Also i apologize for taking this post off topic
