Drives: Evo IX rally car

Airbag light

I'm getting ready to take my rebuilt Evo IX thru inspection so that I can get a plates for it and run Rally Colorado, and one of the last issues to address is that the vehicle needs to have a functioning airbag light.

Since the car is used for racing only, the entire airbag system has been removed. I've got a steering wheel with airbag, so the last remaining hurdle is how to get the airbag light on the dash to illuminate when I turn the key, then go out after a few seconds, or once the car is running.

Just wondering if anyone could point me towards which wire I'd need to jump to make the light come on. I was thinking the battery indicator might be a good one to use, as once the car is running and the alt. is charging things, the light goes off.

Any help appreciated!

I think the problem may be that the SRS light remains lit for about 5 seconds after you turn on the ignition. I wasn't aware that the car had to have a functional SRS to pass inspection. Kind of dumb considering a lot of older vehicles had one or none.

Yep, I agree 100%...but rules are rules I guess. The CO law is a bit funky, but basically its there to make sure that some sketchy dealership won't try to pass a "rebuilt from salvage" vehicle as good as new without functioning airbags. Kind of silly for someone in my position to be forced to put them back in, as nobody would ever be interested in buying my car as something to drive on the street.

I've got a buddy with a subie who failed the initial inspection b/c he didn't have the light working. Then on the second try, the SRS light was connected it up to another light in the dash, and that was good enough to get a pass.

So, if anybody knows which wires I can jump together, I'd really appreciate the help!

Don't they hook it up to a OBD-II and see that the airbag system isn't responding? I'm sure no gas station would bust your balls for having a SRS light not come on. Make a temporary timed switch or something. I've seen it done for some stupid reason, but anything for a sticker? /shrug

Got thru inspection with no issues. The officer reviewing the cars knows what we're using them for, so he wasn't too hung up on the details. I didn't even have a full exhaust on the car at the time...I think they want to make sure you're not rebuilding using parts from a chop shop. Luckily for me, no OBD-II scanner was used. Not even sure if that would function with the OEM ECU removed from the car.
