Will not go online

I bought the software and the connection tool to hook the emanage up to my laptop.
I dont have a Serial port on the laptop so I bought a USB to serial cable and then connect it Emanage cable to that.
Everytime I plug the thing into the emanage with the car it always says offline.
I turn the car off plug the emanage in and then turn the ignition to the on position.
It always says offline.
what should I do.
Should I remove the software and reinstall it again and try it that way.
Please any help would be great.

Thanks
David

Number one at the top of the E-Manage menu select different com ports to find which one you are using. It is set to default to com1 but usually you use com 3 or 4 with a USB adaptor. If that still doesn't work it may be the adaptor. I use the Keyspan unit from Comp USA. Works on everything. UTEC, Hydra, E-Manage, etc. . .
Never had any compatibility problems at all.

the adapter I have is from Comp USA I dont have it with me right now to look at the name brand but I am sure it is the same one.
I used the Adapter with my PC on a Utec already and it worked great.
I try it on emanage and it will not work.
Do I have to have the Emanage disc in for it to work, becasue I just assumned you down loaded the program and that was it.

Do you sync a Palm device to your laptop? I had to change my PDA (datalogger) to sync on a different communications port when connecting to my Emanage. For whatever reason, both my Emanage and Palm can only connect on COM1.

No, you do not need the CD in the laptop to connect to the Emanage.

i connect thru com 4 for usb-serial connection and com 1 for serial straight. Try switching your com ports as suggested above. That shoul do it. Just click start offline and then go to the drop down menu for options>com port> select the port.

You could also go into your device manager and see what port the usb adapter is using so you know which to select.

That usually does it...
