Winter 2009/2010 Forza 3 League
FORZA 3 IS OUT! And we are starting up our racing league. If you would like to play with us this season post up your Xbox live gamertag below. As always we will play with all the realisms settings turned ON because most of us are hardcore and like the challenge.
This weeks tracks are:
Amalfi Coast Reverse 10 laps
Sunset infield full 6 laps
Seabring full 6 laps
Rules are:
Okay guys, initial rules are:
1. Only one car can be used on all tracks during a race weekend. That means you can't race with different cars on different tracks for a weekend, eg: EVO for one track, Mustang for another, Lotus for the 3rd. Also you can't change the modification you apply to the car for the weekend, eg: EVO with power mods for the 1st track, EVO with handling mods for the 2nd track, etc. However you are free to use different cars for different weekends.
2. Cars are limited to a PI of 465 or lower.
3. Cars need to start from a PI of 250 or higher.
4. Minimum weight limit for all vehicles is 2400lbs or higher.
We will fine tune the rules as we get a little more familiar with the game and all the multitude of options. Additionally we will be changing things around once in a while to keep things fresh and entertaining, for eg: certain weekends could be limited to FWD or AWD or RWD or above a certain weight or a power limit, etc ... but everyone will be given a heads up a week in advance. Occasionally we could have team races! Just keep checking the forum.
Settings:
Auto Stability Management (ASM): OFF
Traction Control System (TCS): OFF
ABS: Optional (Default ON)
Force manual shift (no auto): ON
Show braking line, etc: OFF
Force stock cars with no upgrades: OFF
Damage: ON
Collision: ON
Realistic tire wear: ON
Clutch: Optional
We'll be playing with the settings listed above. Keep checking this post for what tracks we will be racing on Saturdays and how the rules get fine tuned each week. It kinda works like this, everyone meets up in a party, someone starts a game and then everyone gets 2 practise laps around the tracks we will be running on, after that it's full on race. When racing please be curtious to others as it is wheel to wheel racing and damages are turned ON. Incidental contact is understandable but purposeful bumping is not allowed. Plus you don't want to ruin your's and someone else's race with possible damage. If you accidentally bump someone please use some common courtesy and determine what is best to do in that situation, sometimes that may mean giving up the position you gained.
If you would like to talk about the demo or even the game, there is a different thread for that. This thread is specifically for those who are interested in a semi-serious Forza3 racing league that meets once a week to virtually race against each other for fun.
Every week we'll update this thread with the tracks we will be racing on.

Two questions.
First, why would you have force manual shift on? I know the point of this is to be realistic and all but I have never played a racing game with manual shift on. So if I have to start racing that way now just to play with you guys I'm going to suck at it and it'll mess me up. I thought the point of this was to have fun right? That for me, isn't fun.
Second, if someone gets bumped off the track on accident I'm not going to want to pull over so they can get back in front of me. In real life when something like that happens does the guy the bumped someone off on accident pull over to let the person back in front? No. So why should you have to do it on the game if your trying to play with everything as realistic as you can?
I'm not trying to be an ass (normally I am). I just want to know why you picked those two things.

Donkey punching is more safe and effective when you use a swift but controlled open-handed karate chop to the very base of the skull, near its insertion on the neck.

Well alot of us that play are realism junkies and we want the game to be as realistic and challenging as possible, rewarding good driving and skills. We want there to be an advantage for a person that shifts at the right rpms and if you misdownshifted there should be a plenty, it just makes the races more challenging.
While most of us may not be that good we enjoy the challenge. Plus autos are for sissys (joke)

While we are all playing for fun, a lot of us that usually play are also very competetive and thus the rule. Its a very fine line between being competetive and having fun. When we race, we keep it clean with very minor incidental bumping. If you don't put this rule in place then some people can go bump happy.
Eg: If you are leading the race and about to win it but on the last turn before the finishline someone bumps you off the track, it can be very infuriating and cost you the race. While most people have given back the position in the past out of courtesy, some haven't.

I man have to get this game. I suck really bad, but at least I can give kimchi competition for last place
Wait... is this a fun league or am I going to get chewed out every time I miss a race? I have a complicated schedule and I don't want to pay for xbl if everyone is going to be a ***** about it (don't have it now)

It's a semi-serious fun league. You're not going to get chewed out for missing a race, show up whenever you can and if there is an open spot you're in. There are really good drivers and average drivers that compete and the pack usually sorts itself out in the 1st 2 laps.
We just need to nail down a time and day that works for everyone. Expect to waste about 2 hours doing this

I'll try to be there. I would prefer us to do it at night (my kids don't go to sleep until 8p) so that I can play without interruption. I don't like the bump rule. What if I'm behind someone who doesn't know what they're doing and I accidentally bump them because they didn't know the proper braking line? Should I be punished? By the time I see their red lights, it's too late. I'm fine with manual only rules, though. I think that if someone gets bumped we should all stop if we're going to to it that way, or just drive with ghosts to avoid any drama.
Also, I think when we switch to forza 3, we should include braking line as some of the tracks on there, we aren't going to know yet.

Who cares about auto v manual, if someone wants auto it's their loss. Ghosting is ghey, I'd prefer standard racing practice IE don't be a douche but wheel-wheel contact is accidental.

I'll see what my schedule looks like, but I'll definitely try to join you guys once Forza 3 comes out. Guess I'll be upgrading my Xbox live account again.
IMO Auto should be optional. While auto will give you more cycles to concentrate on the racing, it also doesn't allow you squeeze out the best laptimes, as it shifts earlier than you can with manual. So IMO it's a wash.

Actually, in straight-line acceleration, forza 2 has an algorithm that matches the power for each shift to match what it was in the previous gear. Here is a video for proof:
