Lancer sportback destined for failure

This will be caused from Mitsubishi themselves more than the competition, by way of the Concept-CX. The production version is looking mighty fine. They are calling it a mini-suv, I call it a AWD Hatchback. Now this is the roofline the sportback should have had. It's a bit tall looking from the front but when you view the side profile, it doesn't look much taller than any other four door hatchback out there.

According to the article, will be available in the US in 2010. Not so confident about these numbers since its only in prototype form overseas and everything there gets released at least a year or two before we get it. I'm hoping its a smaller vehicle too for weight savings. Someone PS a lowered version with some sick rims please.

Nah, X5 too boxy, too SUV. Gotta check the side profile, looks more like WRX hatch, Golf, or Matrix to me. The body mask is a bit deceiving from the front, it has some sort of padding above the headlights to bulk up and square off the front when in reality it just sweeps down to the headlights like the current lancer and evo X. What really looks good is the rearward sloping roofline.

Looks good. I don't really think it will take sales away from the sportback though. They are marketed differently.

Nah this is too small to compete with the X3. It's more along the size of the Audi Q3, and Infiniti EX

If you look very closely, in one of the pics, the driver is giving the photographer the one finger salute. J/K.

Drives: 06 silver Evo IX MR > 08 white Outlander XLS > 08 silver Lancer Evolution MR

That's more like the new Outlander which has an Evo looking front.

I think it is more of a small SUV(Outlander or something) instead of a hatchback. Even in the side shot the driver looks engulfed by the car and makes it look bigger than just a hatchback, IMO.

we have it in Australia. It's heavier, longer, and has less boot capacity than the sedan. I read it from the brochure at a mitsu dealer. No idea why mitsu would do this, it really is like a mini suv. Convenient though, as the rear seats have a quick release mechanism and lay flat, giving that much needed boot space.
