Mitsu confirms SportBack Lancer

Mitsu confirms sportback coming to the the U.S. market after the evo. when was not specified

http://media.mitsubishi-motors.com/p...etail1744.html

2) North America
Mitsubishi Motors will further strengthen trust between the company and its dealers and make concerted efforts with dealers in providing service to customers, as well as working to improve the brand image in the mid- to long term. The company will also expand sales by, for example, marketing the new model of the Lancer Evolution released in January 2008 and adding a sport hatchback Lancer model hereafter. Best use will be made of the local production plant in the U.S. through continued efforts at overall cost-cutting, including fixed costs, and by expanding export opportunities.

Drives: ambystom01 crazy by insisting on spending $2000 when $400 would do

Need to confirm sportback evo, I would be all over dat azz if they could do it without adding to much weight. Though I still would prefer a wagon.

You don't post very often but when you do, you make it count! I was actually planning on putting together a petition this weekend so I'm glad I checked the forums Anyhow, thanks for info, you've made my week

(Now we just need to know when and what models will come in the Sportback style)

I just had a sobering thought... the press release doesn't say that the US will get the Sportback, it says "North America" will be getting it. I believe it's already been confirmed that Canada will be getting the Sportback. Perhaps this is what the press release means when it refers to North America?

There is also no mention of Ralliart Sportback. It could very well just be a GTS Sportback. I don't know if there will ever be an Evo Sportback in US but I have hope there will be a Ralliart Sporback.

I'm also hoping for a Ralliart Sportback. I doubt we'll ever see an Evo sportback since it would require a LOT of work to give the sportback the Evo's wider track, stiffer chassis, aluminum bits, and electronics for such a low volume vehicle.

This is fantastic news. They also mention that their plan includes pushing development on a diesel engine. If they brought a diesel sportback to the US, I'd be one of the first in line.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what's all the excitement with diesel cars about?
