evo XI?
Dont get me wrong I dont have a problem with the current EVO but why doesnt mitsu use a 2.5 liter engine? If a 2.0 does wonders imagine the capabilities.

been discussed before. Mitsu keeps the 2.0 because of the WRC rules. In Japan the STI still have a 2.0. Only here in the states does it get the 2.5

Slightly off topic, but most auto journalists actually prefer the STI 2.0l engine to our 2.5. It revs better, has a better turbo, and sounds better. I believe its also built stronger.
But what the previous posters said is all correct. Doesnt mean its out of the question to go higher displacement, but rather there are reasons why they would not

+1. The 2.5l was kind of a surprise for the US market, but honestly was totally unnecessary.
Besides, the 4G63 was 2.0l and was easier to make more power on than the EJ25. Smaller engines rev better which can equate to better power bands too.
Not only that but 2.0ls get surprisingly better gas mileage (my Evo gets 27-28, my STi's best was barely cracking 26)

I think he was saying the XI should have a 2.5l.

Nah, maybe they'll think about that for the XIII. They do cars in 3's. Still, the main reason is the rally rules, and the whole if-it-aint-broke-don't-fix-it thing.

because its a RALLY car and the rally regulates the engine size for 2 l. Why is so hard even after 5 years to understand that? It is not a drag car... It's build and designed to be a rally car. The groupe "N". So that is way NOT so important every where else in the world /where is the real market for the Evo/ How it does on 1/4 miles... Since the rally is usually on widing and curvie roads with bad surfaces....
Also the 2 L. STI engine is WAY better then the 2.5 L.

The hemoglobalion rules for WRC state the car must use a 2.0L, besides dude...we have Evos pushing over 1000whp, I haven't seen a 2.5L Subby do that one yet.

There's Subarus that do that, they just blow up more often
Subie guys will say that the EJ25 can run 500+hp on the stock block and stock internals "reliably", the question is just "how long" With the 4G63 that's just scratching the surface. Iron block for the win.

Rally Spec Rules and that's the way it stayed. Except for Subaru, which in turn still runs the 2.0 in Japan.
