the "300 lb+" weight gain of the Evo X

ok, so reading up on how the Evo X haters cry about a 300 lb wieght gain, it got me thinking, is it true?

here are the official mitsu specs on the evo X
gs-r: 3344 lbs (1520 kg)
MR: 3388 lbs (1540 kg)
http://media.mitsubishicars.com/deta...43595&mime=ASC

people then quote road and track that it weighs "about 300 lbs more"
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=1

i read from autoweek that "Despite all the added size, structure and systems, the new Evo MR with the six-speed TC-SST is just 100 pounds heavier (including 11 pounds of sound deadener) than the 2006 Evolution IX MR. The infinitely more tunable GSR with the five-speed manual is just 59 pounds heavier."
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../70927003/1065

the jdm evo 9 is about 1410 kg (3108 lbs)

the US evo 9 is about 1480 kg (3262 lbs)
(from http://www.autozine.org/Graveyard/ht...ncer_2000.html)

the jdm evo x is about 1520 kg (3351 lbs)

there is the gain from the jdm evos of 243 lbs, and an 89 lb incerease in USDM

the usdm evo was always heavier, its just that for the X, the weights will be similiar between jdm and US....i think that is where R&T is getting the "300 lbs" from

and that is where the "about 100 lb" difference that autoweek is getting

It was a misprint. Wherever it is stated that the X is only 100 "pounds" heavier, it should actually read 100kg (kilograms) heaver. Which is quite a difference, and makes perfect sense given the numbers (in kg) you provided are accurate.

I think the point he's trying to make is that, for the US Evo, there's less than a 100 lb gain, so people's whining about weight (who are mostly US people) isn't justified.

that is my point....apples to apples (usdm to usdm), there is about a 100 lb gain.....the "300 lb" gain is the jdm 9 to the X

The OFFICIAL USDM WEIGHT SPECIFICATIONS have not been released, so comparing the USDM IX and the JDM X is not accurate in portraying the upcoming weight gain of the USDM X vs the USDM IX.

Only time will tell, right now all we've got is speculation.

i know that the official us spec #s are not out yet, but that doesnt stop the X haters from using the "300+lb" to justify their cause

i just wanted to provide some "educated guesses" on where these 300 and 100lb numbers MAY be coming from

It will most likely be more than a 100 lb gain over the JDM model, since the US Evo X will gain the US spec crash beams, side beams, and emissions equipment.

Jesus Christ. Look people who are hating on the weight gain are going to find other reasons to hate the car regardless of whether it's 100lbs or 300lbs.

If you like the car be happy it's going to be here. If you don't like it STFU and don't buy it.

EZ I give you all the credit for looking up the stats but, people are just going to try and dispute it.

So your saying the .5 seconds slower 0-60 is because of 100 kilos? Nuh-uh.

Could be for any number of reasons. Maybe weight, different gearing, less capable clutch, less capable driver. When the VIII first came here the 0-60 times were all over the place depending how well the driver could launch and shift. Where the times done with the DSG trans or a manual?

The US specs aren't out, but judging by the Japanese specs (which don't include things like a spare tire), even if the US X weighs the SAME as the Japanese one, it will be 200 or more pounds heavier than the IX. My guess is 250.

your US evo 9 is about 1480 kg (3262 lbs) (im assuming the MR is a little bit heavier than the gs-r)

the jdm evo x is about 1520 kg (3351 lbs)

the weight difference bt the 2 is 89 lbs from the gs-r to the X, so the difference from the USDM mr may be a little less

I just got my car & driver and they tested a JDM evo X..... they were saying that the SST in the evo X MR wont be as fast as the new GSR 5 speed because it wont send all the power to launch it to save the driveline maybe thats why its slower?

Also it says that the power split of 50/50 front to rear can be changed up to 80 percent in either end maybe its using 80% rear wheel drive when launching?
I think this is something like the Skyline R34 does with their All-wheel drive system if I remember correctly.

I think ultimately though all these new traction components that they are putting into the car like S-AWC & AYC are hurting straight line performance but probably greatly helping Handling. All this is speculation though....

Also they said redline was 7000 RPM but going into 7600 is required to reach 60mph in 2nd gear I guess that shows the gearing is lower than the evo 8 & 9.
