Electric cars are the future without a doubt.
The in wheel technology is a cool idea. Lithium batterries might be lighter than a internal combustion engine but the down sides in terms of performance is that the cars sprung mass has incresed dramatically and therefore the suspension doesn't perform as well.

This company makes some cool performance based electric cars that you can buy now (sorry not Mitsubishi):

The observant will know that the motorcycles in the movie Akira used gas or diesel generators powering--directly or through batteries--in-wheel electric motors.
The wise will know that Akira is far out on the thinnest part of the cool end of the bell curve.
Therefore, Electric Evo = T3h Win!!1!!1

I agree with most here. Cutting out the drivetrain and retaining awd could make the thing lighter and possible handle like a champ.

personally, i love the look of the evo but don't need to go like a bat out of hell any more. I'd love to see an "electric evo". For ME, that would be the best of both worlds!
