Filipino boxer Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao answered his critics tonight, winning his eleventh fight in a row (and fiftieth overall) by roundly defeating Miguel Cotto in a TKO in the twelfth round.

The victory gave Pacquiao the WBO Welterweight title, the sixth different weight class in which he has won a belt.

It was a classic matchup of speed versus power, with "Pac-Man" Pacquiao's blinding speed against Cotto's incredible strength.

Miguel Cotto (34-1, 27 KO) had a 1/2" reach and 1-1/2" height advantage over Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KO), who has come a long way since his 106-lb. debut.

Many wondered if Pacquaio could survive giving up so much weight; this was his sixth different belt, going back to his first flyweight title in 1997.

Cotto is the strongest puncher Pacquiao has faced, but it didn't look like it tonight, as the Flilipino landed the harder shots against Cotto. At the end of the fight, Pac-Man hardly looked touched, while Cotto looked like he'd been through a meat grinder.

It was a night for Asian boxers and Asian culture. Two of the undercards featured Asian boxers, and both won, and the American national anthem was sung by Filipino-American American Idol finalist Ramiele Malubay.

Filipino Richie Mepanum won the first undercard bout against Ernie Marquez by split decision, while Filipino Eden "Magnifico" Sonsona demolished Eilon Kedem by 2nd round TKO.

This was a sign of things to come, as Pacquiao also dominated his opponent, though it was close at first.

The fight started fairly evenly, but Pacquaio quickly asserted himself, knocking Cotto down early; he often taunted Cotto after a hard shot, hitching his belt up or throwing his hands up, as if to say "Bring it on!" Cotto tried, but simply couldn't respond with enough force to affect Pacquiao.

Both fighters came out punching in the first round, with a flurry of blows from each fighter and Cotto possibly getting the better of Pac-Man, simply because of the force behind them.

Pacquiao came back strongly in the second round, staggering Cotto to the canvas early in the round, but Cotto responded strongly, hitting hard and landing some solid punches, bu they didn't slow Pac-Man down.

Uppercuts popped Pacquiao's head upwards, but he seemed unfazed. Before the third round, a mouse under Cotto's right eye began to swell, while Pac-man looked untouched. Cotto landed quite a few punches, but they didn't seem to affect his opponent.

Midway through the fourth round, the fighters traded punches and Cotto backed the Filipino against the ropes and looked like he staggered him. Pacquiao fought back from the ropes and landed another left hook to drop Cotto to the mat again.

In the corner between rounds, both fighters were showing some damage, but it seemed that Cotto was worse for the wear.

Yet the Puerto Rican came out punching in the fifth round, and both fighters again traded hard shots. Cotto backed Pacquiao in the corner, but once again Pac-Man fought out. This time, however, Cotto landed a few good shots in response to Pacquaio's flurries.

In the sixth, Pacquaio began to wear the taller fighter down. Each time Cotto opened up, Pac-Man met him with a range of punches from unconventional angles. Cotto's punches didn't seem to affect Pacquiao, while Manny staggered the Puerto Rican close to the end of the round.

Cotto began to slow down visibly in the seventh. Though he landed some hard shots on Manny, the Filipino replied with five times as many punches as his opponent. The smaller fighter never seemed affected, indicating that Cotto was losing strength under the withering attack of Pac-Man.

As the fight wore on, Pacquiao showed less and less fear against Cotto, wading in and backing his larger opponent into the ropes. Cotto consistently retreated, while his hardest shots didn't seem to slow Pacquaio down. Still, the Filipino couldn't seem to put his opponent down.

Pacquiao pressed in the ninth round, constantly backing Cotto into a corner to apply more pressure. Though Cotto was staggered and unable to respond, Pacquiao shook off the best of Cotto's counterpunches, thoroughly dominating the now-bloodied Puerto Rican.

The damage became so bad that Cotto's wife and son left the arena, unable to bear the punishment anymore. Cotto the fighter would take a few more rounds to reach that level.

In the tenth and eleventh, Pacquaio pressed Cotto without remorse and without fear, and Cotto moved backwards constantly. Pac-Man was clearly looking for the opening that would end the fight, but it never seemed to come.

The twelfth round saw Cotto's corner asking him if he could make it one more round, but he didn't have it in him. Pacquiao pressed him hard, until the Referee Kenny Bayless finally called the fight with less than a minute left in the round.

Though he wouldn't divulge his next opponent, nor even his preference, Pacquiao acknowledged that this was the heaviest weight class he would fight at.

Though nothing is for certain, Pac-Man seems unbeatable at almost any weight class, and fight fans hope he will face Floyd Mayweather next, answering any lingering questions about who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
