I just got my car back from Buschur's Racing today after they installed Kelford 272 cams, BR coated 02 housing and BR 3" DP and ARP studs, and retuned it on their Mustang dyno. Here are the results: 279HP/247ft/lb. Max boost 20.6 psi. Am I off base thinking this is pretty low? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
about 23psi of boost

Just got back from the track with Tuning Technologies' new bolt-on turbocharger. Stock Evo 9 turbo, custom machined with new compressor wheel and Inconel turbine wheel. Complete stock, direct bolt on replacement. Tuning Technologies did a great job tuning as well, the engine idles and drives smooth with no problems. Low noise with the street exhaust too, can't really hear or see the power. You can feel it though. Huge top end gains compared to the factory turbo.

Car just won the Evo vs. STI Shootout as well at Buttonwillow.

This is copy of my post I started this morning http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-eng...yno-queen.html

Here are some pics of the Black and some of our small O2 housing and comp housing mods.

This turbo is not going to dump to atmosphere at the moment so I know that could hurt power just a bit.

Hoping for close to 700whp out of the car with out pushing the tune to crazy.
Should have it on the dyno later today or tomorrow.

I call my car a dyno queen because its 11:1 comp Alum rod motor with a electric water pump and runs on E98 fuel. So it allways seems to be atleast 50hp over the avg guy on the same turbo.

'04 SSL EVO full weight minus spare tire and Jack (3400lbs with me)
-ETS 5in IC and 3in piping with ETS intake pipe
-FIC 2150s
-AEM EMS
-TiAL BOV
-Dual Bosh O40 pumps external
-E98 fuel
-spike 41psi hold 34psi to redline.
-AEM EMS Tuning done by me
-FP Black
-TiTek O2 housing moded to true 3in by us
-ER 11:1 alum rod motor
-Electric water pump
-APM Racing C&C ported Head
-GSC S2 with Kiggly beehive valve springs
-Magnus Cast intake
-intake spacer
-Mil.Spec 65mm TB
-BR 3in TBE with 3in muff added in the middle (quite :) )
-Exedy SR triple
-EnglishRacing built tranny with a IX taller 1st
-All AC and PS was hooked up and works
-SparkTech Non CDI

This was about a 41psi spike falling to 34psi by 9k.
This is Spool vs my ETS kit. The extra 90hp up top on the ETS kit did feel better though :)

Ok. so, Ive been on evom for some time now and have been doing import drag racing for quit a few years. I'm no 9sec9, Mostwanted, or lucas but i think Ive done well. Ive owned two evos, many talons, and a srt4. I like this site a lot and sometimes it does rub me wrong. Most of you who know me, know me be a smart azz and sometimes very aggressive. That is my nature ;). I however never embellish or lie about stuff. I'm old, and i have no time to lie or make up story's. I all ways do my best to provide as much info on the stuff i post about. I took my personal time and Aaron's personal time last week to get this info. Thank you ER racing and Aaron. you r da man! any way, here is my best attempt to provide info on how much power i make at 22 psi. I couldn't get my ebc to spike and hold 22. sorry. the thing surged like a mofo. I did the next best thing. I turned it off and used wag setting. It creped to 19.9 psi. GST Motor sports commented that the peak whp would about the same in the thread link. they were correct. On the surge run i hit 22.x psi surging up and down and still hit 400+ HP. Notice that the 30 psi spike nets me big gains in torque and barley any whp. Any ho, i could ramble all day, but i just wanted to show, I'm all for providing as much as i can to back up my achievements. Just remember a few things, I'm not a rookie, nor is my car your run of mill bolt on upgrade scooter. thanx for reading guys.

here is where my nature takes control of me ........ TakaseEVOXISE, what would you guess my whp to be at 22 psi if I'm at 391whp on 18 psi with a 1.9 creep? Refer to your post number 32 and 33 in the link.

-tanabe tbe, perrin hfc
-cone intake
-hallman mbc @ 24 psi

Tuned by Chris at AMS on 93 Octane, around 70 degree temp.

Results: 319.9whp / 315tq (Baseline: 272whp / 274tq)

With peak gains of nearly 50 whp and 41 tq, I'm extremely happy with the results especially considering that the Tanabe exhaust is under 3" (2.75" I think) and sacrifices power for a more tolerable sound level. The car is really transformed and a blast to drive with very strong mid-range torque.

Thanks very much to AMS, especially Chris, Eric J., and Andrew. Everyone at AMS is very friendly, professional and seem to love what they're doing. I can't thank them enough.

I would like to thank the people from RRE for doing an excellent job on my car. Specially Mike, Robert Honda and Scott Gray (Dr. Gray)...

I would also like to thank Mike from AWD Motorsports for helping me choose the right combination of adequate mods, when I told him didnt care about the hp but making a 10 second car a 100% daily driver...

After the car was tuned by Scott, my Idle felt completely different, to me it was perfect, I didnt think it could be better, but now its a difference like night and day, even with the my AC on and the car temperature being cold, it feels like the car is at normal temperature and the AC off.

The numbers I got where 509 at 27 psi with Q16 and 388 with 20 psi and 91 octane, according to Robert the dyno reads 10% less than a dynojet, but in the end the dyno numbers are not that relevant, what matters is 1/4 times and speed in the end...

Scott wanted to leave it at 27 psi because the motor is completely stock, I think I could take it up to 30 psi, what do you guys think? I'm very happy at the moment with the results, I hope to reach the 10's in the 1/4. Where I live we dont have a 1/4 mile track, we only have a 1/8 mile one. My last pass there I had a 7.7 at 93 mph with 327 hp in a dynojet, I hope to get in the low 7's or high 6īs..

I love My BOOST GRAPH.....

I would again like to thank the people at RRE

Customer came into us with his stock IX adn explained how like many evo owners that the stock set-up just wasnt doing it anymore. He told us it needed some more muscle and boy did he come to the right place. Initially we started David off with some AWESOME parts from ETS(two thumbs up), ARP, forge, Walbro, Kelford, and Hallman. But David had been eyeing up the 35r AFI kit on my car and explained he was really in search of 500hp. Well when all was said and done David could not leave without talking me out of my turbo kit off the shop car known famously as "NC Black Beast". Figures so since David is a sales manager for a local dealership. After all of the parts were installed our tuner Babi (Crewdawg130) threw her on the dyno and David quickly flew past his previous numbers of 305/289 to a final number on pump gas of 472/358 on straight 93.

I had a repeat customer come in today with a new turbo kit and some other tweaks for a retune. He also wanted to move to stock ECU Speed Density.

I ended up tuning the car first with the MAF and then swapped everything over to Speed Density to do a comparison. As I don't think I have seen a comparison yet, at least on the stock ECU, with a normal car, etc.

Some details on this car (notice some details that make this more of a "normal" every day Evo)

2006 Evo 9

Mods:
Stock Headstuds
Stock head/block/internals
Upper/Lower Nisei IC Pipes
FMIC (not sure what kind)
Tial bov (VTA)
BlaqOps progressive Double Pumper fuel system
FIC 1200cc injectors
GM 3 port boost solenoid
OmniPower 4bar map sensor
35R .63 hotside
Tubular Exhaust Manifold
Custom intake tube with K&N cone filter
GST Motorsports tune
E85

Now the overlay. ;)

Stock ECU with MAF (dotted lines) vs. Stock ECU without MAF on Speed Density.

Notice it's pretty much the same power. This was at 27.5 psi across and exact same AFR flat on BOTH tunes. Same ignition timing as well.

So this tells me, at this power and boost level, with this turbo, on this evo, going to SD will not free up any power.

Well I've just about seen it all on our dyno. Because of this car we had to have people come in and give them free baseline pulls to confirm the dyno's HP was still accurate after replacing the dyno harness and speed sensor. The pump gas tune has a wave in the chart because the boost curve was hard to control. On 91 oct the car put down 443hp, 351tq @ 24-25psi. The race gas tune easily made low 530's but was brought down to the 520-525 range. Boost on race gas is set @ 32-33psi and final numbers on a hot run were 522hp and 402tq. In theory this car could run consistent 10's on 91oct. That would be a sight to see.

So on Tuesday afternoon I took my car up to CBRD to try to finish dialing in my SD patched 94170025 V5.10 ROM.

I had to engine redone by Buschur back in June when it made 474 smoothed and 480 unsmoothed back in June thru a stock MAF a 4-3" reducer coupling at around 30 ish psi. David made a thread about it then so it should still be on here.

Id been driving the car through the summer and enjoying it ever since. I took the car to a DJ and it picked up about 11-12%. Still wanting more I decided to give the SD patch a try with a straight 4" intake a huge K&N 9x6x4 filter. I got a MSD/GM style IAT/MAT sensor welded to my UICP and an Omni 4Bar in the plenum.

The car came out well in my opinion. I didnt want to run asmuch as boost as I ran it up to but it was knock free at that timing. If I added one degree above 6K I would start to see a couple knock counts at even 2 less psi! The car held out knock free at 33 psi on straight pump Shell 93 Oct.

Final numbers were.

531 unfiltered 525 filtered 33 psi

Mods of the car:

BR Drop in JE/Crower set up
BR Stage 3 head
BR BF272 cams
BR ported IM/TB
BR COP
BR Race FMIC with pipes, Crushed and Sealed 1G BOV
BR/Shearer Tubular 82mm HTA turbo kit in a .63 5 bolt housing.
FP 4" cast aluminium intake pipe with 9x6x4 K&N Filter
PTE 1000cc Injectors
BR Double Pumper
Omni 4Bar
MSD/GM IAT/MAT sensor
Exedy Twin HD
Greddy Racing Full Ti 80 mm exhaust, No cat

I have to a say a HUGE thanks to Buschur Racing for the engine work, The ECUFlash Forum and the MANY MANY people envolved over there to make the car possible the way it is! CBRD for the Dyno Rental. And all my DSMs over the years for taking the beating to make me love my Evo the way I do and not turn it into a POS hacked up cars that some turn into. I flipped 37K miles on my way home from CBRD. And has everything that came in from the factory A/C etc.
