New EVO IX owner questions
Hi all. Im going to be picking up my EVO on Friday and had a few questions about the car.
Im an avid tuner, and I throughly enjoy working on my cars. I like to do all my own work, and have owned/worked on a Cobalt SS/SC, 01 Cobra, and my previous vehicle a Caliber SRT4.
Anywho, I know there is a huge aftermarket for these cars and I was wondering how "tuner friendly" these cars are. Also, I was wondering what it would take to make 400 whp without E85 or meth, and what results could I expect with just a tune, drop in filter, and exhaust.
Thanks guys!

The evo is a great car if you like working on it yourself. Yes, it's very tuner friendly. Probably more so than your previous cars. There's a lot to learn about tuning these cars though, so do your homework (search around on here).
Stock evo 9's- and by stock I mean air filter, boost controller, fuel pump, and exhaust- can make anywhere from 320whp to 360-380 or more hp. Add cams, that's another 20 or 30. Add E85, that's another chunk of power.

My 9 made 307whp with cone filter, fuel pump, boost controller, and turboback exhaust. So with very little money, these can have a lot more whp that factory tuned.

I was probly going to do a tune, drop in filter, and exhuast for now just because winter is around the corner.
How much power on average do u think can be made with those mods?

300whp or so.
You should get at least a manual boost controller while you're at it. They can be found for about $80 new, you'll need a way to control boost.

Yeah, you can see low 300s for sure very easily. A tune and intake alone will get you above 300 if you do things right. These cars run pig rich from the factory, so even an intake just bolt on will do you some good, but that is not always true so do some research. An intake exhaust and tune should get you to low 300s, I would forego the drop in filter and just go with an intake if you are going to mod later on. Why waste the money on a drop in when youll be replacing it next season anyway... just my .02
anyways, welcome to the forums. Come and help others out and they will return the favor 100 fold.

Not without turbo upgrade will you get to that number without using E85 or any other higher octane fuel.
Check out openecu.org if you have yet to.
