Engine oil very dirty after 1200 miles

I usually change my oil every 2500 miles in my other cars; I brought my car in the shop the other day to plug a flat...since it was on the lift already, I might as well change the oil i thought to myself...even though i changed it 1200 miles ago. As i was draining the oil it was pretty dirty...as i said before this is my first turbo car, so i don't know whats normal or not normal. Does oil get dirtier faster in turbo cars? I use M1 and M1 filters only.
I commute about 100 miles a day, highway. I hit stop and go traffic maybe 3 out of 5 days...

Car was professionally tuned by a EVO shop here in NY, basic bolt on mods; intercooler piping, turboback exhaust and intake.

yes...its normal for turbo car engine oil to be thick and dirty
try using AMSOIL
you may get better results

AMS oil is $8 a quart?

The color of oil is of no indication to its quality or useful lifespan.

nop, as low as 5 bucks, depends on the quality you need and want.

Very true. You can change your oil every 3k miles just fine. A dark oil doesn't necessarily mean it's already bad. It's when it gets pitch dark black where you see no leftover oil is when you need a change badly. I change mine every 2k just because I'm anal about the car having over 100k.

How many miles are on the engine, 1K in my car (with 23K) and the the m1 still looks like honey. You could have a bit of blow by, with 20+psi x the cr ratio thats not all that uncommon. Are you using any oil ?

I never saw a review on how good m1 filters are but I have for Purolator Pure 1's and for a 5 dollar filter its pretty darn good. Could be that m1 makes good oil and 'only' has good advertisements for their filters....

One other thing to consider is adequate draining. Maybe all the oil isnt coming out of the system.. ie maybe some is stuck in the oil cooler and its coal black ... just food for thought.

One has to be very carefull with blackenned oils, specially in turbocharged vehicles because they run extra fuel to keep cylinder temps down unlike N/A engines.

this could be due to many reasons, AFR to stoich, the oil oxydation level is on the high side, needs to clean or change air filters, and on and on.

Mobil 1 oil analysis comes back excellent with life still remaining even after 8k miles with an OEM Mitsu filter (on an Evo IX). You people changing your oil so frequently are doing nothing more than wasting money; you're doing no favor to your engine. If you're so concerned about your oil send a sample out and get it analyzed. Doing so will cost less than doing an oil change so even if it saves you one you've evened out, and honestly, it will probably save a lot of you hundreds if not thousands.

A Used Oil Analysis will save you lots of money.

My personal results were my amsoil lasting AT LEAST 7500 miles with a wix filter.

p.s. you're not just saving money, you know your oil is doing its job.

Just wondering if it also includes getting on WOT here and there. Like once every day or so. I've heard Castrol Edge lasting 15k miles before needing an oil change from cars like Camrys but those are mostly driven by ppl that don't beat on the car.

Right and thats a big difference from a car tha avg runs 380-400 WHP and blurpping on the throttle once or twice a day and WOT pulls, your right the oil is not going to last as long as youd like.
But a good synthetic like AMSOIL, Mobil EP you should be able to squeeze the most out of it.

I usto run back in the day Mobil 1 on our cars and run it up to 6K thats all it would give us according to an oil analysis lab, now we run ATM 10W30 and or SSO 0W30 and we run the oil for a full year, matter fact the engine shows cleaner inside in all mechanical aspects, just saying.

Guys you have to remember and iam sure you all do. That when you go from stock horse power to modified pushing 300AWHP + you can throw the manufaturers rccomendation out the window and you need to start all over again and the way you can start all over again by doing oil analysis labs, these labs will tell you how is your oil holding up and it will reccomend a new drain interval, and everytime you do modify your car more or less you need to go back to the drawing board and re run an analysis oil sample to get a new baseline otherwise you might be trhowing money out the window by draining to soon or draning to late.

I would reccomend to stay away from blackstone labs and use OIL ANALYZERS, 1. They are not a certified lab 2. They do not give you a report with oxydation which is very important in turbocharged cars like the evo, why you need to know OXY ? well simply because you want to know if you oil is oxydating, 3. And they still use some old methods of reporting.
Not saying they are the worst and not to use them, but you just get a little more with OIL ANALYZERS.
