how much boost

can you run on a stock ix turbo before a turbo timer is needed? Just basic mods. Intake, exhaust, bigger IC, o2 housing and EBC set at 22psi. Is that too much to not have one already?

the turbo timer has NOTHING to do with amount of boost you run...its used to idle your car after a hard run to cool your oil among other things...

i think u just like a fire with that. I believe its debabtable on a stock turbo. If u plan ion ever upgrading the turbo i don't see a big deal in getting one now.

Turbo timers are not necessary. I have upgraded turbo and full bolt ons with boost set at 25 psi, and I dont have a turbo timer.

turbo timers for the most part are pointless for a DD...just dont boost for a couple of miles before you arrive at your location or let it idle yourself

i know that. but isn't the harder you're pushing the turbo, ie. more boost, you need it to let everything cool down?

I still need a boost gauge for my car but I had a SRT-4 with one before. You hardly use ANY boost when you're just cruising around town. Thus people say you're fine as long as you don't floor it as you're getting to where you're going. I just leave my car on while I'm taking my ipod out, putting up sun visor, ect and I don't floor it when I'm getting close to where I'm going to shut it off.

unless youre WOT everywhere, and i mean everywhere (parking lots, mcdonalds drive-thru) and after all of that you pull into a parking stall and just shut it down, youll be fine without a turbo timer...

and boost gauges can help tell you if youre leaking boost, overboost due to something being wrong with your wastegate, etc...so your analogy is kind of flawed...
