I am looking at around 16,000 so probably an 03 or 04. I was told by a buddy of mine with an evo to avoid the 03. Makes sense. year one of most cars generally have a lot of issues. He said they had a transfer case issue in 03.

I would love to get an MR or MR SE, but that just isn't in the budget right now. Got student loans to pay off and am working towards getting a house this year as well.

The thing is that 03 was not the first year the Evo was built. It was just the first year they brought it to the US. I have never heard of this issue with the 03 transfer cases. I know of several guys that drive 03's including myself and no one has ever had a problem. I think your buddy is wrong.

Any tips you guys could give me to help me in looking for a car would be great. Stuff to avoid, stuff to look for, whatever. Thanks a bunch.

I love my honda, but have been getting tired of all the issues you have with modding a car well beyond what it is meant to do. I am ready for something that comes out of the box fast and that I can do minor mods to to take is further than the honda would go. I have a 96 ex coupe with a built d series and a 50 trim t3/t4. Moves pretty good when it wants to run right.

I ended up picking up an 04 VIII in California for 16,800. Fresh paint job, new clutch, brakes, all the basic maintenance stuff. Love the car so much. It has been a lot of fun to drive around.

It had 44,000 when I got it. Book value at the time was like 18,625 and I picked it up for 16,800. Was also nice to have fairly new brakes on there, new clutch, paint, etc. It looks pretty new. Kinda sucks thought that I think somebody may have backed into my bumper the other day. The lower lip of the front bumper is cracked in the middle now. I will now be saving some money to pick up a new bumper and get it painted. Lame.
