Yeah, almost everyone I've seen on here that has the HKS say it sounds almost stock.
I think just about every exhaust (except the Injen SES) for the 08+ Lancer is an axle-back. I guess the stock exhaust piping is already 2.25" and with minimal bends, so there's no need for a cat-back. The most restrictive piece is the muffler and the cat(s).
There are plenty of videos of exhaust on youtube, just search "08 Lancer Exhaust" or something similar. Although I wouldn't base your idea too strongly from videos on youtube due to compressed audio, and the quality of the camera that initially recorded the video can make it sound much different than it really is.
My recommendation if you want one of the best performing, nice and loud exhaust; would be the WORKS axle back. It doesn't have a muffler so it's the lightest (if that matters) and probably the loudest aftermarket exhaust available (not including custom Axle-backs with universals).

there's also the magnaflow cat back which is less then the injen. There are sound clips on their website, however the installation requires you to cut the stock exhaust after the cat.

I posted the link earlier lol.
Ah, I was told by my local exhaust shop that it was 2.25" when I had them check it out to see what they could do. Could be wrong though, I've never seen anything official that says what size it is.
