Yeah we know what you mean. You could get the inspection first then do the cams. If reliability is an issue then don't do anything to your car. Of course anything you put on your can/will bring the reliability factor down a bit. But in the tuner world, cams are pretty reliable as long as you use them as recommended.

From what I've read, as long as you stay below 270 with the cams, you'll pass smog.

This was discussed in the Norcal Evo forum. The guys over said that you'll pass smog with the HKS 264 or Works 269. You might be able to pass smog with 272 if you have the stock cat.

if the intake has a carb sticker on it you should be fine..
most smog places wont check your exaust.. cause all they do is stick a tool/probe in the pipe in the muffler to do their mesuring of gases and such. they dont need to go under the car for any reason. all they do is stick a probe on one of the plug wires i think and do their visual checks.. they cant fail u cause of the boost controller in the dash.. its impossible for them to know if u have aftermarket cams. make sure they dont go looking around the engine in areas and questioning that part whitch has nothin to do with the smogg check... most smog places arent smart enough to know what on an evo is stock.

i had bad experience with smog places with my old car so if im parinoid, forgive me

just my 0.02
