I did custom car audio and performance here in Baltimore for about 4.5 years. We ALWAYS ran into the "The dealer voided my warranty" issues. A Rep from Directed Electronics keyed us in on a very good way to potentially keep your warranty.

The MagnusMoss act is a good one to mention, and usually this is enough. However, if they still say they are voiding your warranty, you can ask them for it in writing on company letterhead. I would say 9 out of 10 times, people who did this would A. not get it in writing and B. the stealership would actually come back and say some pr crap about "We are going to go ahead and honor your warranty anyway since your a good customer".

This, per the directed rep, is because if its in writing, you can get a lawyer, and they then have to have a completely valid reason to void your warranty.

Dont take this as a win all be all end all. It wont save your warranty if you overboost the turbo and blow something. It will however, not let them void your warranty for most basica items like an exhaust, or wheels.

Hope this helps some people.

I'm buying one that has a catback mod, 91 fuel downgrade flash from WORKS. and a APS BOV, would these enough reason for them to void my warranty? It's 42k miles. 06 Evo IX GSR. Thanks in advance!

Drives: 2008 Honda Civic Si (4dr)

Hello Everyone.

I'm new to EvoM myself. I currently have an '08 si (my first manual tranny), but am looking at the evo viii. I have tried not to be that annoying guy by posting another question that can be easily found in the faq's or search engine, but I have struggled finding an answer. Because I am new to the evo scene, I apologize for my ignorance. But here is my question I am hoping you guys could answer:

Ive been searching 2005 evo viii's (mostly on autotrader), and I have noticed the badging on the trunk to be different. Some have "Lancer Evolution" at the bottom right of the trunk, others have "Evolution VIII" across the mid, and some debadged entirely. Also some of tailights are blacked out like the JDM IX trunk. I understand if these are mods, but were they options for the straight VIII and MR at time of original purchase???

Thanks for your help guys.

After I got my Evo. My suggestions to new buyers are:

First, don't buy this for daily driving.
It is a super fast car when the turbo kicks in, horribly fast! But when you hit traffics, hm... hm... hm... you gonna be pissed. It is so tired to move, stop, move, stop, move, stop, move, stop, move, stop, move, stop. However, I would sacrifice my tiredness for the super fast car. So, consider this first.

Second, be prepare to worry about your car. People would key your car, they would look around your car and inside the car if you park it in public places, cops would put their eyes on you, and the mileage is crazy (I can watch the fuel meter comes down).

But... that's the way it is to own a nice car, and I have to get use to this someday...

Any thought about what I've said, please comment
