WestSideBilly's Concise Guide to EvolutionM.net

Hello, and welcome to EvolutionM! The following guide will help you get the most of your time on the site.
  • You should be familiar with our rules.
  • Most topics relevant to the Evo, Lancer, and Ralliart have been discussed at length in the past. The Search Function is a good place to find information. If you're new to The Lancer family of cars, the Newbie/FAQ Forum has a lot of great info.
  • If you're trying to sell something:
    1. You must have 15 on-topic posts or have been a member for one year. We do not count off topic, regional, or show and shine posts.
    2. We have dozens of different for sale forums for a reason, use the right one.
    3. If you recently post whored your way to 15 posts by posting nonsense in the show & shine section, and you still can't sell...
      • It takes a little while for the database to update your account.
      • Don't be terribly surprised if all your posts get deleted and you get a PM from an irritated moderator.
    4. If you've had a transaction, good or bad, with another forum member, leave them an iTrader feedback. The iTrader system is one of the best ways to determine trustworthy sellers. The moderator staff is notified of negative feedbacks and we investigate repeat offenders.
    5. After selling an item, you can now close your own for sale thread. This prevents people from bumping your items asking if they're sold (and generally annoying everyone).
      • Note: You can also edit your thread title for up to 7 days to append [SOLD] or otherwise change the thread title.
  • Thinking about buying something from another member?
    1. Check out the seller's iTrader rating. Negative feedback should be a red flag that other members have had troubles.
    2. Before settling on financial details, make sure you're getting what you think you are: request pictures with identifiable markings (username/date, for example). If the seller can't provide them, another red flag.
    3. When paying for your purchases, consider your options if something goes south. Paypal offers very limited recourse for being scammed, especially if you use a linked bank account. Use a credit card via PayPal, Visa/Mastercard and their issuing banks have a more vested interest in looking out for you than PayPal does.
    4. Using PayPal's "gift" feature waives the 3.5% fee, but takes away both the buyer's and seller's ability to dispute the transaction. This should only be used for transactions with someone you know personally.
    5. If you're making a very large purchase with someone you don't know, consider using an escrow service. The internet escrow sites have reasonable rates and this is the closest thing to a truly safe financial transaction.
    6. Document financial comings/goings. If you pay/get paid via Paypal, print or screen cap the payment. Same with anything going through your bank/credit card. You should blur out personally identifiable information (SS#s, addresses, account numbers) if requested to share this info.
    7. When arranging shipping always ship with a tracking number. USPS may save you $30 now, but when your package goes MIA, both the buyer and seller are left with little recourse. Exchange the tracking info with the other party ASAP.
    8. Purchasing something from a member in another country adds additional risk.
      • All packages go through customs in the destination country, and most customs offices are not known for either expediency or reliability. There is a small but real chance your package will be damaged or lost, and customs offices generally don't care about your loss.
      • Customs adds a couple days to a couple weeks to shipping times. Also, postal services enjoy going on strike. If you're on a tight time schedule, consider shopping domestically.
      • Shipping internationally without an online tracking system is roughly akin to playing roulette and betting your purchase money on black.
    9. If you've had troubles with a transaction:
      • Contact a member of the staff. We can sometimes help with communications breakdowns, which are the cause of most "scams".
      • File a PayPal dispute and contact your Credit Card/bank as soon as possible.
      • If the EvoM staff and PayPal/CC/Banks can't help close the transaction favorably, leave a negative iTrader review. This may save another person the same fate as you down the road.
    10. If you've had a good transaction, leave a positive iTrader. Most of our members are upstanding people, and a good rating helps separate the good guys from the scum bags.
  • This forum is not exclusively an Evo forum. It was a Lancer forum before the Evo was available in the US, and it continues to serve Lancer, Ralliart, and Evo owners. Don't be surprised if nobody is impressed that you own an Evo, and spare the Lancer & Ralliart owners the "you should have just got an Evo" line.
  • Have an issue with your thread, need it to be moved or closed? Click on the button on the lower left of your post. This will notify all the moderators of that section and they can quickly address it.
  • Want to contact someone directly and privately? Click on their name and choose "send a private message to" from the pull down list. Visitor messages are viewable by everyone and are not recommended for conducting transactions. Also, don't click on the button - it sends a message to all moderators of that section, but not the person you want to message.
  • Been here a while, never bothered posting, and need to sell something? Sorry, we don't make exceptions.
  • Don't like your username anymore? We generally only grant name changes in extenuating circumstances. That said, we're much more tolerant of name change requests than we are of multiple accounts. PM an Admin with your request.
