brake pads
I have to replace my brake pads for the first time and I'm at about 24000 miles. Would it be better to replace them with the stock pads or go with some different ones? How much should the dealer reasonably charge me to change them out?

the stock pad retail is about 750 bucks for front and rear most shops will use what is called flat rate and is prob going to be some where in the 1.5 hour range for front and another 1.5 for the rear so 1.5+1.5=3.0x there labor rate plus the parts
i would not spend nearly 1k to put brakes on
do you track your car or dd it? if you track it i would order the hawk pads
if you just dd your car i would go to the parts store and get like brake best or something like that
i put the brake best ceramic pads on mine they dont dust and turn your wheels black but the do squeak the frist 2 or 3 times you stop each day
good luck hope this helps

Changing the pads on the X is VERY easy. You simply punch out two pins per caliper and swap the pads (you might have to use a couple wrenches to retract the pistons in the caliper). You should definitely consider doing it yourself.
I'd look into the Girodisc magic pads if all you do it drive around the street. Less dust, far less cost.

I'm shopping for a new set front and rear now a little before I need them.
I noticed that the local big chain auto parts store lists "oe replacement" for about $110 front and rear with shims. You think these are like metal masters or something ok for a bargain, or junk. I might throw a bill away and try them. Sucks that Brembo won't sell the exact pad leaving you only to get bent over by MMNA and the dealer network.

The OEM pad is from Ferodo, not Brembo FYI.
Those pads, if they are the right size, are going to suck.

that's good to know... the 2500 series compound? Those worked fine for me on 20 minute track sessions (well, the original pads that came with the car).
I may or may not track this car again. I have another ride I would like to bring out a couple of times this winter, but it is conceivable I'll bring the evo out again if I'm feeling generous enough to bring my brother a ride to flog.

They aren't the same as the 2500's. I'm sure they are some weird compound that Mitsu speced.
The 2500's bite harder, squeal more, and eat the rotors faster. Don't dust as much though.

How do Hawk HPS pads compare Ferodo DS2500's.

they suck...
Just get the magic pads if you're not going to track. Low dust and noise, good stopping power. Inexpensive.

DS2500s are track pads. They would suck for street use; squeal like pigs and eat your rotors. The OEM pads suck too. They are mostly made up of anti-squeal compounds. The Endless SSH are made for the Brembo style calipers and have some heat capability for spirited driving.

i am running a complete set of magic pads now and while they definitely are way way lower in dust than the stock pads, they don't bite nearly has hard as the stock pads and mine don't squeal/squeak unless they're really really hot (like from bedding them in)

Hawk HPS Pads are great on the Street especially for spirited driving. They can be a little noisy when cold but even pads that are sopposed to be quiet make some noise in cold weather.
