I need new brakes for a DD...
Hey guys,
Just got back from the dealership, i was getting the fuel return recall taken care of. took about an hour.
I was told i need new brakes... I have 20k miles and this is my daily driver, never been on the track, brakes see no intense use except for a panic stop every now and then in atlanta rush hour traffic
so does it sound right that I may need new brakes? (i assume i only need pads) I am not sure how many miles people are getting from their stock pads on the X.
Can anyone recommenced a good pad for a daily driver?
I appreciate the help!

Ok, yeah I'm a bit skeptical about my brakes being near the end.... I'll have to take a peak and see how my pads are looking.

instead of speculating, i suggest you remove a wheel and look at how much material is left.

I have 32K and getting close to the wear indicators. They will start making noise when they get down to the indicators. Pull a wheel and take a look.

*Note it was with a GTS not Evo*
They told me my brakes where near ends. About 6mm left out of 10. They said it's dangerous at about 4-5mm thick because it can break in half !
She said : you only have 13 000km bla bla bla, told her yeah I went to the track 2 times that's why they are used, she stopped bothering me lol.
So yeah check out by yourself because some say anything to make you pay.

i changed my brakes at 26k, had a customer change his at around 26k but just last week i had another evox and he had around 24k and his brakes looked like it had 50% left, i think it really just depends on your driving habit.

This all depends on what type of braking you do and obviously a daily driver is going to wear out quicker than a weekend car. I'd pull a wheel and look, everyone's got a different case of when they wear out

There should be a metal tab on your pads (probubly the one on the strut side of your caliper) that is a pad ware indicator. When the pad wares down to this point the ware indicator will touch the rotor and make a very distinctive sound. If you have not wore down to that mark then your pads to not need to be replaced. Now if you were driving the car and have overheated the pads that it a different story. Some pads can become very hard and brittle when they are over heated making braking performance suffer and can also lead to chewing up your rotors.
How do your brakes feel?
Is there is a lip on the outer edge of your rotor where you can see the orginal thickness of the rotor and how much you have worn into them. Is your rotors really shinny almost polished (you could have glazed your pads).
That dosen't sould like you have alot of miles on your car but then again it is all base on how you drive the car so they could very well br right. If you are in the market for new pads we have a wide range of pads that can fit any type of driving style and price.

Thanks Johann,
I am pretty sure my pads are fine. I have never over heated them... Hell i don't think I have ever had them up to a good operating temperature before, haha....
No distinct sounds from the brakes except for the occasional squeal which is to be expected from our brakes..
I will rip a wheel off one of these days and get a good look, but as for now everything feels fine, honestly feels no different from the day i got the car.
