Project MU NS vs. Hawk HPS

Lately I have been researching pads, and basically have put it down to these two choices.

I want something that has better initial bite than stock, better braking power, and emits low brake dust.

I have seen both positive and negative comments regarding the Hawk HPS's, but haven't seen too much on the Project MU NS's.

I don't track my X much, but I'm looking to do ~four auto-x's a season and maybe one or two track days.

Will either of these pads hold up? I don't really want to change the pads every time I go to the track.

My second concern behind safety and longevity of the pads is the amount of dust that is emitted from the pads. I really don't like having to clean my wheels off after driving 120 miles.

Any help would be appreciated.

OP, how many miles did your X get before replacing your pad?

i have the hawk HPS on my 8 with DBA 5000 rotors. i will tell you i'm very unhappy with the pads... bite is not great, they howl like crazy on the streets and you can practically watch dust come off you car while driving. if you are looking at hawks i would recommend stepping up to the next level. i have heard great things about those. don't know much about any other pads as this is the first set i've bought that aren't stockers

I think brake dust is something you'll just have to deal with when it comes to performance brakes. There is just no darn way around it. I personally own the DS2500 from Ferodo. They are very similar to stock, except with better initial bite, especially when warmed up. I am using anti-noise shims with them, so I cannot really give a fair comparison to stock pads. I've heard that the raybestos ST43 is an even better pad, check with goofygrin, he has 'em after going through a set of the DS2500s.

I don't really want to change the pads every time I go to the track.

The DS2500's are actually advertised to be for users such as yourself.

hm. i had hawk hps before...never had problems with them. works fine on the streets and dust is a lot less. no brake squeals either.

I'm pretty much open to everything since I don't want to buy something and regret my purchase.

I know they are. However, do the DS2500's emit a lot of dust? I guess I could deal with something that emits around the same amount of dust as the stock pads, just not more. I'm also thinking the Project MU NS's will end up being just like the HPS's, and not be very good for track applications.

at first i had hwk HP+. they are very good for autoX BUT they were horrible for daily driving. very noisy, dusty and chewed up my rotors also. THen i switched to Endless Ns97 and i love them.. Not as aggressive braking as HP+, but much better than OEM. THey were consistent throughout whole autox event and during daily driving very little dust or noise.

i think i'll use Hawks for road course next season, but ns97s are best option for autoX/daily

I have the hawk pads, just a DD with street use, no problems. I use them on Power Slot cryo slotted rotors with goodridge brake lines. Stiff pedal, bites hard, no noise or dust, ever.

Thanks everyone. I guess now I'm going to take the Endless pads (thanks Maria!) into serious consideration. I have all winter to decide, so I guess I have time.

which ones are you talking about? HPS or HP+


the endless i mentioned are better stopping performance than hps but dont have the dust/noise of hp+

how much do these pads run and were can i find them ...i was goin to go to mitsu and just pick up the stock ones today but now ima wait

Had Hawks and hated them. Dusty as hell, noisy, not much bite and can't handle much in terms of heat. To top it off they are pretty pricey. A lot better choices out there for the moolah.
