Cheapest way to ship a set of tires?
Hello,
I've found that recently, UPS and FedEx are charging more to ship loose tires than boxed tires. Boxing them just seems like uneeded hassle, but might have to anyway. What do you guys use for the cheapest way to send tires?
Thanks,
Ryan

I always used Greyhound. Yes the BUS. It's much cheaper, but the customer has to pick it up from bus station closest to them. Never had issues. I sent/received bumpers, wheels, tires before works fine. Comes with a shipping / tracking info note as well.

Bag em? Might count as packaged. Also see if stacking and taping them is cheaper (pairs).

Now that's thinking outside the box (no pun intended). Any guesses on what a 300mi bus pass would cost for 4 tires?

Just checked and Greyhound is ~$83, and FedEx is also $83. UPS is $140! FedEx and UPS require boxes (bags won't cut it), because otherwse the tires will roll off their conveyors.

It is usually less with Greyhound. Their dimensions are usually off much of the time.
It was costing me about 100 bucks to get wheels from Cali to OH. Not sure how it came to $83. Maybe their rates went up.

Still not a bad deal considering they don't have to be boxed. Maybe it's a better value going cross-country.

I shipped them already and Fedex was only $62 insured for four tires to Iowa. I did have to box them up which honestly took about an hour to do, making two custom boxes
