I had a set of gunmetal grids shipped to me in Australia 5 months ago. the finish on them out of the box was spot on and when i had them fitted they needed hardly any weights to balance them. Less than the O.Z Racing rims I had before even.
Not long after I got them I had a run in with a curb when I was driving a bit stupidly and put a 2 inch scratch on the rim. There is no paint peeling off or anything. If i touched it up I would hardly know it was there.
Very happy with the value for money.

No it wasn't a curb.. prob a rock hitting the rim on highway... i drive 30mi 5 days a week to work and the highways here are filthy and plenty of debris including flying blinds lol!... i will try later and post a pic for you...

I have hypersilver grids, they look painted with selveral layer of color. My car is not Daily Driver but I does see harsh driving when I do take it out. I've had them for over a year now, no bends, no cracks, no shaking.

I was just at a local dyno meet and I was complimented left and right about my wheels.

I know you make your living off of selling Rotas wheeldude and take negative comments about Rotas very personally since it has the possibility of directly affecting your sales. I also know that some of you are die-hard Rota fans and will defend them until you have a problem with a wheel or a set of wheels. I know all wheel brands have had their own problems that have been well documented on forums.

With all the disclaimers now out of the way, I just wanted to chime in that of all my friends, only one has Rotas. They are Grids and they're on his 350Z. Not only do 2/4 have paint chipped off of one spoke on each, but the paint chip is due to a random crack. I looked at all four wheels and there are no bent areas I can see, just the two cracks. No sign of plastic deformation, just brittle cracks.

Edit: more disclaimers: I stand to make no monetary gain by discussing my buddy's issue with his set of Rotas. I have never owned Volks, Advans or Rotas. The only rims I've ever owned were Enkeis and OZ, both of which I've never had a single problem with.

I have owned my Rotas for about 6 months, they are the gloss black finish that was asked about by the OP. So far they are holding up with no signs of weakness or chipping. I wash my car at least once a week and every time I wash the wheels they look brand new. I still have no rock chips (to my knowledge, I am very meticulous) and no cracking, vibrating nothing... These are the second pair of aftermarket rims I have owned. I couldn't ask for more bang for the buck, no problems yet and hopefully none in the future.

And to all the naysayers, I have no doubt that people have had problems, EVERY manufacturer has problems I dont care who you are. These wheels are a great and especially with Wheeldudes customer service, it makes things a LOT easier if something where to fail when you can have a new wheel to you in just a few days. Vs months it would take to get a new Volk or Advan wheel. And good luck just finding one for sale.

I'm done with spending $500-800 per wheel.

I spent $225 a wheel for 18x9.5 P45Rs, and have had them on my car for 3 years. Finally, a month ago, I hit a nasty pothole and cracked one in the rear. I spent $100 bucks to get it patched, and it performs great again.

I'll probably be looking into replacing the whole set next summer, and I will 100% get another set of Rotas. I've owned Volks, RoJa, and some less reputable wheels, and I have to say that the Rotas were BY A LONGSHOT the best bang for the buck. I'm sure there are horror stories about every manufacturer - if I got a set of wheels where all of them were bent/out-of-round, I'd send them right back. I'm fairly certain Subydude would be willing to work with you there...

It's also awesome knowing that if/when one does bend/crack, you can spend $200 bucks and get a replacement shipped to your door in less than a week, instead of having to OVERNIGHT PARTS FROM JAPAN (read: wait 4-6 weeks).

And seriously, if you're all wound-up about powder coated wheels, go spend another $300 bucks, get all 4 powder coated before you mount them, and you'll still end up spending less than some of the big name wheels.

Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I live in the North East, so my roads absolutely blow. I've put about 50,000 miles on these rims, and they've done a heck of a job surviving.

i like this JDM bashing posts, they are actually cute.

There are much more wheels out there then VOLK or Advan besides Rota...
And most of them not $600 price range. Fact some even very close to the Rota price range. DO some search and you will see it.
So there is more options then Rota or Advan - Volk... besides , i never had a mysterious 4-6 week waiting time. I ordered my after market rims /not rota/ and i got them less then a week, every single time. You just have to make sure the vendor have it on stock, that is so hard?

I like these threads... I have those rims 6 months and they are

Awesome.

One thing i have to admit, Wheel dude is a good business man and a great vendor by any means. Judging by the comments about him from various guys. Not to mention i did some research before and i actually ask some quote for rims from him. He is really a great guy.

But you have to remember , in the car business are no wonders. You get what you pay for.

that doesnt mean the Rotas are bad wheels. But dont patronize it too much.
i will not say more , since it is about Rota wheels, i just cant stand these JDM or any other wheels misleadings posts.
Its like nothing close to the Rota, in the value for the money field...

Don't get me wrong. I can understand the appeal in having a unique part straight from Japan I just don't see the extreme prices being worth it. That's just me and I know many people do find it worth it.

P.S. I don't know if you have an HKS turbo kit, that was just an example.

Like I said earlier, Enkei or Work. Both make great wheels that are significantly cheaper than Volk and Advan.

I have ROTA SVN in Hyper Black. Installed when they first came out. This is my DD and I have noticed some some chips here and there but overall they have held up great. I detail them with every wash and they still shine and generate compliments almost everywhere I go! Best $900 I've spent on my Evo!

i have owned so many wheels its not even funny.....EVERY set/brand you can think of just about. I have also painted and powdercoated wheels myself. I own some volks right now , enkeis, rotas , advans and some prolly 10 other brands/sets i don't feel like bothering my brain to think about. I will tell you for a FACT that the rotas i have owned (especially as of the last year with buying sets to use on cars from dan (wheeldude) and the rotas are easily on par with any others. I have had two sets of black , my best friend has a set of blue rotas (all large 18 inch ) and a few other friends with subys have 17s and another friend has 15s. I have had GREAT results/luck with chipping and i always have mine on and off and on and off from racing on them . NO problems short of me being a bit hasty on the lugs when removing with my cordless snap on impact at the track, but that is my fault not the wheels. DON't be any more concerned with buying the wheels as you would volks ....i have had volks chip easily just from a socket falling off the impact from 12 inches away and had issues.
