I think people would cringe to find out what other brands paint the majority of their wheels......

There's nothing really wrong with painted wheels.
Expect chips and curb rash, but that will happen on any wheel over time.

I have gunmetal grids, they are painted and glossed.. no problems so far for me. It hold up the paint and I use my car as a DD commute freeway miles. Satisfied as of today and I have them for 4-5 months now, no chips, no bents, no cracks, no shaking.

I've got the Rota P45F's in Royal Gloss Black that are painted. I've had them 2 years now daily driven, use them all year round except in winter when i put on my winter tire/wheel setup. The paint has chipped just only where the lug nuts bolt up. Was worried it might spread a bit more to visible areas but they've held up great, much better than I expected.
Excellent service from wheeldude and great prices. I know people dog on Rota's but i've been 100% pleased and will buy more from him if I ever decide to get some new wheels.

How has the the finish been holding up to scuffs (which I think the Gloss is more sensitive to) and/or scratches, chips, and overall durability due to regular daily driver handling/use (I realize track usage will hammer the wheels more due to repititive mount/dis-mounts)??
|
Ultimately, it depends on the actual wheel finish as certain finishes use a different process. Hyper Black is a multi stage paint process which starts with a base powdercoat and then is sprayed with multiple layers (Black and then followed with"Hyper") before being clear coated. Yamaha Black (Gloss Black) is a standard finish which still starts with base powdercoat and then is painted/cleared.
The finish is durable however if impacted (curb, rock/debris) it can chip. Generally the paint will not flake further (as other members have reported) but in rare instances this can happen. Rota does offer a full manufacture warranty (extremely rare we would have a wheel with a paint defect) and if there is an issue they replace the wheel for free.

Those are not known facts about Rota Wheels. If this was the case, then every forum member on EvoM would continue to post thread after thread about their wheels not balancing. We mount/balance tons of packages a day and ship out tons of wheels a day and this is not something we see.
It's a known fact that your Advan Wheels warp
It's a known fact that your Advan Wheels chip all the time
"Anybody else having an issue with their Advan wheels ....
I've got some 19" RS's and the paint is strating to chip quite badly!! I'll post some pictures later...... I've never hit anything....."
Thread here where people have the same issue
Advan RS - Paint Chip!
Of course I am just kidding about the above, it's extremely rare this would happen.

every rim will chip if they are painted. No matter if its JDM or EU or in this case Rota. You cant blame them on that.
The stones on the road will take they toll. No way around it.
I had many many different type of rims including mad JDM stuff. They are all chip if you are actually use them./talking about racing/
Now im using, and i personally think a best rims for racing, and i'm still dont believe sometimes i got sponsored by them : Speedline Corse rims.
Guess what , they are chip too. I dont think you can have a bigger more respectable name for racing wheels /equally maybe/. Specially in rally.
So i think the chipping issue is not a big of a deal.
Rob

I have read and read over and over again that Rotas are a bad rim. I have always been a Volk Advan guy. All rims get paint chips NONE are bullet proof, I dont care what anyone says. I have owed all 3. I am very happy with my Rotas I have had them a couple of months now and no chips on mine. Everyone has their opinion on aftermarket parts but most havent owned the product they are putting down. They are quick to say "I heard" or "my friend had a pair". It all comes down to what you want them for, show and shine or track and auto x.
I went with Rotas and didnt spend $4500 on rims and tires, so that puts a big smile on my face. If they get cracked, missed balanced, or chipped, I can always buy a new set and still have money in my pocket.
Thanks for the great customer service and help from wheeldude. I will be getting my next set of rims from you Dan, thanks again.

I have Grids on my X. Matte black and the finish looks as good as it did from day 1. I daily drive the hell out of my Evo and I'm surprised nothing has happened to my finish yet...as 3 out of 4 of my stock rims I curbed.
What people don't get is the rate of failure is higher on Rota not because of quality but because of quantity. Hundreds more use Rota so the chance of failure is so much higher. It's like Disneyland, chances of an accident are so much higher because they get INSANE attendance numbers. I bent a JIC rim does that make it a "cheap" rim?
I love my matte black Rota Grids and don't have a single complaint.

I've actually owned 2 sets of Rotas (Tarmac 2 and Boost) and haven't had any issues with them either! Structurally, driveability, aesthetics, was all perfectly fine for me. I would like to add that Wheeldude's service was freaking 2nd to none, i actually ordered the Rota Grid for a friend (long story) and he's extremely happy with his wheels too. We both daily drive our Evo's too.
I'll also be ordering some Rota's for my bro's Subaru Legacy come next summer.
HOpe this helps.
