Do you put the stocks back on in the winter? Is it safe running a 10+ inch wide wheel in the snow?

No it's not safe to run wide wheels/tires in the snow.

I just got a set of Advan RZ 18x10 +25 with 265 Dunlop Dirreza DZ101s. I currently have three sets of wheels (trying to sell my SSR Comps now.) But YES, in the north east (Philadelphia) the highways usually get torn up by snow and ice and rock salt can damage the finish on wheels. In addition, wider wheels are much more prone to hydroplaning and do not provide necessary grip in the snow. Plus if you're running summer tires you do not want to run them in the winter. Keep a set of winter or all season tires on your stock wheels for the cold and wet seasons.

I typically switch wheels around October/November and back again in April/May.

I ran a 17x10" wheel with 255 Snow tires on for Utah Winter here on my car and they where awesome

While narrow wheels are more preferential in inclement weather, the more important issue is to have the proper of winter compound to cope with the conditions.

^+1, definitely don't run the stock tires in the NJ winter. They're like plastic once they get cold, and they're a disaster on the snow. I use all-season tires for the winter since we don't get a ridiculous amount of snow. They last longer than winter tires and do a pretty good job. Don't use nice aftermarket wheels for the winter, the salt and crap on the roads will destroy the finish. Wider wheels for winter is unnecessary as well.

Keep your stock wheels w/ winter tires for the winter, and use performance tires on the 10" wheels.

so i tried it when old man winter came and it was ok...until i pressed the braked pedal and ABS would activate everytime even with slightest tap on the brakes!

no way, go for all seasons or winter tires.

+1 on not using stock tires, seriously, it's dangerous. In the snow, you will lock up brakes even trying to brake slowly. Anything more than the normal low rpm engine braking and you're sliding.

It is that bad on stock tires.

Three weeks after having the x i was driving on a very cold day with mostly clear roads and light snow which made for hard to see ice spots but the ground area was covered with snow...

long story short going about 35mph I hit a small snow /ice going straight on the road, the road was off camber a bit and it instantly sent me spinning off the road into a snow bank, and I had to get towed out.


The stock tires are very dangerous, Got D3's put on a few days later
